my big pine tree in the yard has branches over PG&E lines

would PG&E trim a tree if the branches hang over the power lines? or do i have to pay since the tree is in my yard?

i would call pg&e except i'm at work. i just want to get a little info before i call

I don't know about them trimming the branches for you, but I'd bet that if one of the branches fell and happened to bring down the lines they'd hold you responsible and bill you for the cleanup. :disgust:

PG&E will trim them if they contact the lines. Otherwise, I'ld just call a tree service and pay them.

Most of the time it is the power company who maintains the "right of way".

right, but my tree is overhanging the lines that serve my house, not the line that runs up and down the block inside the easement.

Usually, power companies claim ownership up to the point it actually enters the house. If they consider the tree a danger to thier lines, they'll have them trimmed at their expense.

PG&E will only trim branches that are in contact with the lines. Call for an inspection and they will tell you if they will do it or if it's on you.

The problem is that the PG&E contractors dont give a sh1t whether your tree lives or dies. All they get paid to do is trim the branches clear of the line.

If your tree looks butchered and/or dies after they do it, they really dont care.

If you value the tree, hire your own tree trimmer.

Yep ... what he said.
The utility will butcher it ... their only concern is the proximity to the lines. If they think it'd be cheaper, they may just cut down the tree entirely ... I think there was a thread here to that effect a few weeks ago.

If you care about the tree, have it done yourself.
