Made it back from the hospital. Been a rough day to say the least. I have busted out in tears quite a few times posting, once on the drive up and once in the ICU room with him. 55% chance to survive, that means he has the odds in his favor. So he WINS. Fuck you leukemia, you are NOT taking my friend. Thank you everyone for the support.
I just got a phone call with some very bad news. My best friend that I have known since high school is in a coma and may not live. I am going to the hospital tomorrow, right now its hitting me pretty hard. Never had to deal with anything like this before. ATOT prayers are really needed. I hope this doesn't sound stupid, how do you handle something like this. Bring a card or flowers etc? If he was recovering from surgery or something, I would know, but not for someone in a coma.

Bring a book and sit and read to him. You won't know if you can hear you but it'll be good for both you and anyone else there to feel like you're doing something for him, and who knows, maybe he can.
I have a friend who was in a medically-induced coma for two weeks after life-threatening injuries from a car crash and they had to keep his fiancee out of the room most of the time because whenever she came in and talked to him his blood pressure rose enough to endanger him (had a tear in a main blood vessel that was waiting for surgical repair.) He didn't have that reaction to anyone else, so sometimes something can get through to a person even in that state.

This is horrible to hear. My father died from meningitis @ the age of 73.
Just be there for the family, help them out with anything you can. This thing can be exhausting for them and any little thing others might not care about will be huge for them..
I wish them the best and I will say a prayer for your friend, and you.
