My best friend goes under the knife this afternoon.

She has a large mass which will be removed along with her spleen.

Hopefully it's benign - we won't know for a while, but she's been progressively getting worse the last two weeks. Currently she's a anemic and fairly weak. The doctor is fairly positive about the surgery. I can only hope.

Update:
I lost my best friend today. She went through surgery with a few complications, but came out in the end. I took her to the ER clinic for after hours care so she wouldn't be alone at night, and so she could be monitored. Unfortunately the phone rang at about 8:00pm CST.

She's not, nor ever will be... just a dog.

best of luck. I don't have a spleen anymore.. do dogs need theirs?

Works the same as it does in people. Apparently it's one of those "luxury organs"... nice to have but you can get by without it.

Poor girl. I wish her the best!

Is it bad that I chuckled at luxury organ?

Nope. Not bad at all.

A softball-sized tumor was removed. Unfortunately there appears to be some nodules on the liver that can't be removed. She managed to make it through the surgery, though apparently her heart stopped once. 🙁

Now for the hard part... waiting and hoping for recovery.

Poor critter.🙁
Well, she did at least have a shot at some medical technology that's millions of years beyond her species' abilities. 🙂

How old was she?

I'm sorry.

My dog Timber had a seizure a couple of months ago. It was discovered that she had a splenetic mass growing and sucking the life out of her. It was inoperable b/c she also had a large blood clot. I took her home believing I would have to put here down the next day. By some miracle the splenetic mass stopped growing and she's still with me. I treasure everyday.
