The movie Batman Begins was heavily influenced by the graphic novel Batman: Year One. There were, of course, some obvious differences - the addition of Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul, etc.
This movie has nothing to do with Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, or Batman & Robin. It's a totally new take on the character. Did you ask where Adam West was when you saw Tim Burton's Batman? Of course not, because it was a totally different film series. Joe Chill killed Bruce Wayne's parents, not the Joker. The Joker will be in the next film, and hopefully they will be similarly loyal to the Joker's origins in "The Killing Joke", in which Batman was present at his creation but not as directly responsible as in Burton's film.
