Ive built a lot of comps for people (using what they requested or what i thought best) but this computer is for myself, mainly to be used when my main rig is busy or something and i need to get work done and need more power than my laptop, and some other stuff i need to rigs for. anyway since its going to be for my own use i just want to see what people think, im far from a n00b at building ect, but it cannot hurt.

anyways suggestions will be appreciated. let me know what you think, but please no "OMG your wasting your money BS, restrain yourself lol.

just the basic hardware (ive got enough watercooling parts from previous projects, and i have speaks and a monitor ect....)

BTW i have a 250gb seagate so im good storage wise.

Lian Li PC-75 Silver Aluminum ATX full tower case
GIGABYTE GA-K8NS Ultra-939 NVIDIA nForce3 Ultra
AMD 3500 Venice
BFG Tech Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
OCZ ModStream OCZ45012U ATX 450W PSU
Western Digital Raptor WD360GD 36.7GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
PLEXTOR PX-716SA/SW Beige SATA DVD Burner
CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro
EDIT: oops forgot ram
2x512mb OCZ EL Platium Rev. 2 RAM

anyways just sold my old rig and got some extra money, and i build and sell rigs on ebay ect, which i might end up doing with this one.

OMG that is a nice backup system! Does that count?

Also, why are you not going with a NForce4 motherboard?

That kills my main rig, plus the CPU/Mobo I'm thinking of upgrading too.

Yeah I understand the need for a backup system.

Mine is not that flashy, but it gets the job done. I have used it to test new setups prior to installing them on my main machine. Running different OS' and such.

Mine is:

Athlon 64 3400+ Clawhammer at 2.4 on a DFI Lanparty UT 250
1 GB Corsair Pro Series PC4000
Maxtor 250 Gig PATA
Nvidia 5900FX 256 MB
Lite-On CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Chieftec Dragon Case
Dell 2001FP Monitor

Thx for the input, and yes thats exactly why i am also getting a backup, well said trey shadow, thats still a nice system you got there.

anyways i am getting the Nforce 3 because i can save some money, one i do not really need any of the new 4 features, so the mobo's cheaper, and i can get a great deal on the apg 6800.

I'd use the second rig as a File/Media server - you could consider using it as an HTPC as well, in which case you'll want a different 'case :).

Wow, this is going to be a _backup_ computer? I cringe at the thought of how much your main rig set you back! Hey if you have the money, though, go for it! The parts look well matched except for the mobo as someone mentioned earlier, but if its cheaper get the nf3.

hmm i wouldnt get the first gen raptor, if you want something fast you might as well get the second gen 74gb one or just stay with that large drive. The second gen one is so much faster as you can see from the raid acticle on AT
