Apparently not, because I believe the myth was BUSTED.

It tasted different, but didn't take anything near top shelf liquor.

According to the expert they had on the show, the filter did exactly what it was supposed to do. Each time it was filtered, it tasted better. But it still wasn't top shelf.

But hell, $10 for a jug of vodka and $4 for a filter is still better than $40 for a handle of some decent stuff.

I don't get this new craze of filtering liqour?

If you don't like the way it tastes, buy something different.

If a $10 filter makes a $10 bottle of scotch as smooth as a $100 bottle of scotch, it makes sense to do it, no?
That's the point. It doesn't.

Does it make it as smooth as a $21 bottle of scotch? Because then you'd still be ahead ;)

What happens if you filter scotch 20 times and then filter water through it? Will it be pure water or will the filter saturate it a bit with scotchy-ness?

I've filtered Popov's Vodka and Winner's cup. It's a lot smoother and sweeter after filtration. I don't like it as much, but it definitely beats the non filtered cheap crap.

Somehow I found Smirnoff to be better than cheap filtered stuff.

Of course, Grey Goose beats them all.

Laphroaig and chocolate cake. It was sublime.

Also try Lagavulin - another great Islay single malt scotch.

I happen to like drinking stuff that tastes like burnt and salted peat moss flavored cough medicine - but many can't stand the taste.

For all the people who say it doesn't work.. have you tried it? I haven't but it doesn't mean it doesn't work. It's not like he doesn't have the money to waste if it doesn't do anything and it's not going to hurt to try.

Scotch?

You're not supposed to filter Scotch...

Vodka and other "clear" alcohols, yeah.. but not something flavorful like scotch.

Filtering vodka is stupid, imo. Even el-cheapo vodka has been filtered through much more expensive and professional filters than a Brita filter. The only thing Brita adds is charcoal content to the vodka which sometimes gives it the illusion of being more pure.

Also, dumbass, filtering Scotch is fvcking stupid. Why the fvck would you filter scotch? Scotch is supposed to have those impurities.. that's what gives it flavor. Vodka is essentially an alcohol ABSENT as much flavor as possible. Gin and vodka are opposites too, btw. If you want a lot of flavor, drink Gin. I prefer Beefeater.

Johnnie Walker Black is a decent scotch.. ya, it isn't $200/bottle - but decent scotch doesn't have to be expensive as fvck. There's no reason at all to filter it.

If it tastes much better and doesn't have the bite, what's the big deal spending $4 on a filter for the handle?

Spending $4 more on a handle doesn't even bring you close to getting a managable handle of vodka.

BTW.... it is ALOT slower than water if you haven't tried this brand / type of alc.

I'm sitting here in my AquaJet 9000 enjoying my usual meal of steak, waffles, french fries, and of course scotch.

I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly...
