To the athlon overclocking gods,

where the hell did I go wrong? I bought my self:

MSI Ultra 2 mobo
Athlon 2000+ xp processor
Retail heatsink + fan solution
2 crucial 256 MB RAM

and this system is not even stable at 2100+. @ 1.850 V.

UGH!

Where oh where did I go wrong?

Sincerely,

Athlon overclocking mortal

How are you overclocking? FSB or multiplier? Is it a Palamino or a Thoroughbred? What rating is your ram? What settings is it at? Also, the retail heatsinks gotta go... My XP2000+ palamino made it to 1.83gHz, 2300~ speed I believe.

1st mistake: you bought retail and actually used the retail heatsink 😛

apart from above question, which powersupply?
use mbm5 [motherboard monitor 5] to see idle voltages and at load voltages (specifically the +5, +12, +3.3....we dont need the negative ones)

I am overclocking by increasing the fsb. The fsb goes to 140 and is stable enough to boot windows, but not to play games. Anything over 140 brings me the blue screen of death. I have increased voltage as far up as it will go -- 1.850 V on the MSI ultra. My memory settings are at the most aggressive (since its Crucial PC2100 RAM) 2-2-2.

I frankly don't know if its a T-bred or a Palimino. Is there anyway to check that in software, i.e. without taking off the heatsink and fan?

will download wpcpuid; and let you know the results...

BTW the powersupply I am using is a generic 400 W PS. Voltages on all lines look good though.
