I recently bought a Athlon xp 1800+ from newegg.com. I didn't bother checking i got everything and built my computer. I thought i got everything right (it was my first time) but then when i used the wcpuid utility, saw that my cpu was only running at 1161.44 Mhz!! athlon xp 1800+ should be running at 1.53 Ghz! Is there something i should be aware about that is slowing down my computer? wcpuid also says system bus is 200 mhz ddr, system clock is 100 mhz, multiplier 11.5, L1 I-cache 64K, L1 D-Cache 64K, L2 cache 256K, L2 speed 1161.40 Mhz, mmx, mmx+, sse, 3dnow!, 3dnow!+ supported. DID I GET A WRONG CPU???wcpuid DOES say it is "AMD Athlon XP (Model 6)", socket A!!! btw my motherboard is Gigabyte GA-7vrxp! Please help anyone! and also, if anyone has athlon xp 1800+, could you post what you get with wcpuid?? thx!
so i guess i'm wondering if i have the right processor, and if i do have the correct one, what do i need to do to get it up to speed?

RTFM (read the %$##$%^ manual) for crying out loud. Proper cpu setup is always covered in the manual of all motherboards. If you would read the manual you would know that you need to actually set the FSB to 133 since as with every socket a board i have ever seen it is at 100 by default. Why don't so many people take the time to at least skim the manual.

It's his first system build. Give the guy a little slack. Don't forget that we were all n00bs once. 🙂

You have a point, but I've seen about at least 3 or 4 posts like this in the last couple weeks.
