I have a EPOX 8kha+ (12/18/02 Bios), Athlon XP 1700+ Unlocked, Crucial 256 DDR Ram, Geforce256 DDR, 100GB Hdd, Antec pp-303x 300w power supply running Windows XP Pro...

Cooling - Swiftech MCX462 /w 80mm delta, 1 80mm fan blowing in front of case, 1 120mm fan blowing in from side right over cpu/graphics card, 1 120 mm blow hole on tope blowing OUT...

I can only overclock to 1533mhz (11.5x133) stable. I run that at 1.775v vcore, 33C Cpu Temp-Idle, 35C Cpu Temp-Full Load, 24C Case Temps... Memory is probably set to max performance in bios and at 2.70v vdimm

Anyway, I can do 1553mhz-1600mhz but it's NOT completely stable, not even at 1.85v vcore... pretty much reboots or I'll get a blue screen when under load (depending on the speed).. anything higher than 1600mhz and windows xp will give the blue protection error or page file not found...

I was hoping to do at least 1650mhz-1700mhz... The average seems to be around 1661mhz... I know my temps are excellent, so I doubt it's heat, i HOPE it's not the cpu......

I'm thinking my limiting factor is my power supply. I think 300watts is too low for overclocking (at least overclocking to the speeds i want)... My 5v is usually around 4.81v-4.87v, but i've seen it drop to 4.76 before. That's the lowest it's ever dropped. The other volts are fine, usually above what it's suppose to be, like 3.33-3.4v for the 3.3v.

Anyway, any help or suggestions would be appreciated. If you guys think getting a new power supply won't allow me to overclock more (like my cpu is the limiting factor), please say so (based on my post). That way I won't have to waste money buying a new psu when this one works just fine at 1533mhz... I am planning on getting a Leadman aka Powermax LP-6100D 400watt PSU (i found a used one for a pretty good price, no other suggestions please). It's 3.3v and 5v COMBINED is 200watt which is a lot more than my Antec 300watt. My antec pp-303x has a 160watt combined 3.3v and 5v.

The specs on the Leadman aka Powermax 400watt LP-6100D PSU are:

AC INPUT 115V/230V, 10A/6A 60/50Hz
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V -5V -12V +5Vsb Total
LP-6100D 35A 40A 18A 0.5A 0.8A 2.0A 400W

3.3v + 5v COMBINED= 200W

all the specs seem MUCH better than my Antec 300w...

Anyway, please help...

More than likely it is your power supply. Either that or try using less agressive memory timings.

Also what is the stepping on your cpu. If i remember correctly the 1700 had 2 different steppings.

hmm, well i didn't check the stepping when i installed the cpu, but i just bought it from frys like 20 days ago... so whatever stepping is the newer one is what I probably have...

I have also have an XP 1700+ and an Antec pp-303x PS. I can run it at 1712MHz but I'm playing safe and run it at 1663MHz at 1.78V. Is the CPU new? If it's old, it might have the core of an 1800+ when 1800+ was the fastest.

I would suggest the psu. Did change myself from a 300 w, I could hear my HSF alter speed with my 300 w according to workload.

Just built an XP1700+ on an Abit KA7 Raid and it did 1612 first try IIRC I haven't unlocked it yet I built to for my neighbor and he wanted to get it going. I'll unlock it at a later date.
