My ASUS smartdoctor for my ATI4850 is a buggy POS...

I just put an Accelero S1Rev2 cooler on my 4850 and I really need to see what the temps are to make sure I didn't do something wrong and they're getting dangerously high. I'm finally fed up with smartdoctor... it closes within 3 seconds of me opening it, and will never give me an accurate reading or change it's temp. (I'm sure idle temps would be different than playing COD4 at full details, but smartdoctor shows the same).

I've heard about rivatuner but it looks like that's only for nvidia cards. Any temp monitoring programs out there that will work with my ASUS ATI4850, one's that AREN'T smartdoctor?

Thanks...

The Catalyst drivers have built in temp monitoring software. I am uncertain if the Asus cards diverge enough from the ATI reference design to render it useless though. Do you get your drivers from Asus or will the ATI Catalyst drivers work?

Too bad the VRMs are over 100C at load.

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Yeah :( However, for example in the new PoP I get like 92-95C at 7V after 2h of gameplay... I can see the temps rise steadily, however I just take a 10 min break and everything cools down and it takes some time to go too high again.

And I rigged the fan to my Fan Controller, so I can pop it up to 12V if needed (for example when playing something heavier) :) It stays acceptable then :p

EDIT: Not to mention I usually don't play more than an hour of anything at a time now :) PoP was so great that I played a bit more :p

Rivatuner without a doubt. It's the best overall as it allows you to tweak everything. And yes, it works just fine with my HD4850.

Get this: http://www.zalman.com/ENG/prod...oduct_Read.asp?idx=335

A friend of mine just installed it on his 4870 with a Thermalright HR-03 gt and he gets very low temps with it. I don't know if it fits under the S1, since it's a bit tall. But for the price it has, give it a try. ;)
