My Amex Blue card information was stolen........

I got a call from Amex yesterday asking me to call back regarding an attempted charge of $2,200 at a Target Store in OH which was declined. (I'm in NJ)
These people were able to charge $100 at a footlocker and attempted 3 or 4 other charges elsewhere (gamestop, target..)

I really don't know how it happened. I've never lost my credit card. I do pay my bill online though.

Sad thing is that if these thieves are ever caught, myself or the authorities will not able to mutilate these pigs. I sure would like to cut both their feet and hands so then can drag across the streets for the rest of their lives.

Damn our stupid system. Instead we'll just send them to a nice jail, feed them 3 times a day, make them tougher, pay for their education, fix their teeth..........

sorry about a noob question, but how do they do that without your physical card?

I have a amex blue student card myself 🙂

Any place recently you used the card where you someone might have had it out of your sight for a few minutes (like a restaurant)? Someone there might have used a skimmer to clone your card.

as long as they have the card info, they can simply make their own cards.

after working in retail, I've seen some examples of those fake cards. they are generally poorly made with no indentations and the magnetic strip won't work, forcing you to manually enter the numbers.

most of them are easily spotted.

Are you sure it was Amex who called you? Just playing it safe, but i read recently (I think i was here on AT actually) about scams where people would call you up pretending to be from Amex or some CC company.

It was amex who called. They left a message and I later called using the number printed in the back of the card.

I guess the reason why a flag was raised is that I used the same card to pay for gas in NJ while somebody tried to pay for other things in OH.

I've had that happen. It can happen when you're credit card number is stolen from a database. It could be purchased online.
