My Alarm Clock System is Inadequate.

At 7:30 this morning, my alarm system sprung into action:
1 cell phone, by my bed, playing "midnight haze"(absolutely most annoying of stock ringtones) at full volume.
1 Palm m130 with stock beep at full volume.
1 Visor Edge with stock beep at full volume.
1 computer playing music through desktop speakers.

At 12:30 this afternoon, I woke up.
It took five hours of continuous vile din to wake me up. WTF?

And no, I hadn't been drinking, smoking, shooting heroin, etc. the night before.

You slept through them, or got up, turned them off and went back to bed?

Slept through. They were still active when I awoke.

I find that a real alarm clock going *BEEP!!* *BEEP!!* *BEEP!!!* is more effective than playing music. Music sucks as an alarm. We're conditioned to respond to...you know..alarms.

Also, get enough sleep the night before. If I'm running on only a couple hours of sleep, I'm much more likely to oversleep my alarm.

light timer with a light blaring at me worked for me.

i used to have a horrible time sleeping through alarms but that solved my issues.

1) Get a cat. It'll jump on you in the morning 5-10 minutes before you normally get up.

2) Go to bed/get up each day at the same time (including weekends and holidays). Do this for a couple of months and you'll never need an alarm again (nor will you be tried during the day). Your body's natural clock is wonderful for *GASP* telling you when your body is ready to be awake. All you have to do is to set your natural alarm clock.

3) Get an alarm that goes under your pillow and shakes you awake.

4) Get an alarm that turns your lights on/off, makes smells, or sprays you with water. Use any other sense because you are purposely ignoring the sense of hearing.

I used to be the same way... I would literally tune my clock radio to the AM band inbetween stations and turn the volume on full blast as the static is a totally random and horrible pattern. Any alarm with a beep or music will make me fall asleep. I also used to disable it in my sleep despite taping the button down.. I ended up putting it across the room so I'd have to get up.

Now it's not a problem and normal FM radio wakes me up.

The problem isn't your alarm, it's that you're not getting enough sleep.

If you're getting enough sleep and still unable to wake up, it's time to see the doctor.
