As some of you know, I am doing a 3 day charity ride this weekend to raise money for AIDS Outreach Programs. I leave tomorrow and am getting everything sorted.

I am going to be posting pictures from my cell phone taken along the way. If you have any interest, they will be popping up here. I will probably start uploading photos on Thursday evening.

If I have internet access in the evenings, I will provide some commentary. In the meantime the steady stream of photos will have to do.

If you feel generous, I would love to have you donate too... :)

Take Luck!

Well, we rode a bus down to Maryland from NYC today. Two buses full of people excited about their forthcoming ride. We got on the bus at 2pm. 7 hours later we arrived in Aberdeen.

Turns out there was an accident on the NJ Turnpike that had traffic STOPPED for four hours.

That was fun...

End of Day 1

Well, we rode from Aberdeen, MD to Valley Forge Today and checked of Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania as states ridden through. Total distance 86.8 miles. It wasn't straight through as we has plenty of oases to eat and drink at, but I am well knackered nonetheless. Tomorrow will be over 100 miles and will be a challenge.

How are the inclines? :) Man, I wish I was there riding. <sigh>

I still have as of yet to do a double century. Most of the ones down here are dumb because you have to wake up at ungodly times to miss the freaking heat.

We had some long hills today, but the longest steepest of the was a downhill.

2 miles @ 42mph is AWESOME!

2 miles!! I really want to go now. :(

I went down a 1 mile drop. People were braking around 45-46 because it got too fast. It was so much fun.

End of Day 2

We did 90+ miles today. Some absolutely brutal hills, but the payoff was a couple more long steep and FAST descents.

Me and another guy missed a turn and ended up skipping the lunch stop. :( We didn't even realize this until we were 7 miles down the road. Fortunately, we miraculously got back onto the route and rode to the next oasis and got some lunch there. We were almost out of water and had no food for a while which at mile 70 on a hot days is pretty harsh!

Overall, a succesful day and my ass isn't nearly as sore as I feared. (insert AIDS ride demographic joke here...) The speeches at dinner were very emotional and made me glad to be a part of the experience beyond just riding to ride...

I got the rest of the pictures uploaded so here is the day 3 update:

We rode another 75 miles today and I amazed to say that I was riding faster at the end of the ride that at anytime beforehand. Being the first person to Weehawken was pretty cool... :) All the training paid off, because there were some people looking seriously ragged (but very happy) at the finish.

We rode through some absolutely gorgeous areas today. Yes, there is a reason they call it the garden state... From Lebanon to Roseland is 40 miles of rural beauty and a bunch of nasty hills. For some reason, the town of Essex Fells didn't want a bunch of AIDS riders polluting their town, so after lunch we had to ride through all together with a police escort. Pretty absurd, but riding in a tight group of 100 was pretty cool...

After that we rode through Montclair, and I got to see my wife for a few minutes (first time in 3 days :D) I was so amped afterwards that I rode the next 5 miles at about 25mph... One last oasis and then we did the final run to the unofficial finish line at the Weehawken finish line. We then waited for everyone and took a ferry into the city for the final ride down to our finish line at the clinic where we were welcomed by a few hundred people cheering. It was a great way to end a great 3 days.

I will try and get a hold of the ride profiles to post. You can see how nasty some of them were. The downhill on day one is still a highlight...
