Yea, it was a modded 256MB 9800 Pro, so warranty replacement is out. I need to get a new video card and I'm a bit confused about what to get and could use some advice to get started in the right direction. I'm not planning on upgrading my system right now, but am willing to spend upwards of $300 or $400 for a suitable replacement AGP card. I had been partial to ATI cards, but I hear nVidia has been the fav of most(?) of late.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

System specs are in my sig and rig profile.

With that budget, a 6800GT or a 6800 Ultra. The GTs can be had for under 300 fairly easy. You could also probably get an AGP X800 XT (PE) within your budget as well.

6800GT or x850XT. I wouldn't get a 6800 Ultra as they're still overpriced. You may as well get a 7800GT for a few dollars more than the 6800 Ultra.

Keep your eye on the FS/FT forum. I just got a mint x800xt-pe for $260. :p

If you want to buy new, I would probably suggest a 6800gt or x800xl

Uh yeah 6800GT is probably the best deal in AGP. If you can find an x800xt for a similiar or lower price get that.

Save your money and get something cheap. I wouldn't get anything higher than a 6800 card, because your CPU will be holding you back if you go much higher. I would save the extra money for when you upgrade your system. 6800 cards can be had for 160ish. The main drawback would be 128 mb of memory only. An x800 may not be a bad choice for you too. I personally wouldn't sink too much money into AGP if you see yourself upgrading your system in the next 6 months or so.

Thanks for the input guys.

I ended up going for a X800XL for $240.00. That'll get me 16 pipes, decided not to spend too much money on AGP at this point.

I was going to suggest just save some money and go with an X800XL... it's worth the savings if you are not going to want to play games like they can be played on a 7800GTX! :p

I am considering going with an X800XL PCI-E right now when I get my PCI-E mobo, just because they are very reasonably priced!

I was going to say 6800GT, but the X800XL will work just as well.
