got my new hardware last night (cpu, mobo, and ram) and put it all together. everything seemed fine except i had no video. the mobo i got seems to be known for not displaying video, based on reviews i read. plenty of people had no issues so i decided to get it anyway because it was the right price and could do sli.

tried some troubleshooting but got nothing. put my old hardware back in and i still got no video.

one thing i noticed that i never noticed before (but never really paid much attention to) was that the card's fan doesn't start spinning until like 3-4 seconds after the pc is on. it also sounds like its not working properly either. i don't know if this is normal or not.

i'm trying to get a guy at work to take it home and test it. 2 sets of hardware in my own case and it doesn't work right so it seems like its dead.

by all means test your GPU in another MB [ i guess you don't want to set up your old system again]
.. why would your MB 'kill' your 8800GTS?

have you set everything up with a completely minimal configuration

yes, i tried it with just the mobo and video card plugged in and still got nothing. video card gets power because the fan turns on.

so with your Old MB there is still no video?

my condolences .. the only thing i can imagine would be 'coincidence' ... or static electricity [as the above poster noted]

the good news is that warranty should cover it .. you didn't drop it did you? :p
:Q

just kidding

The fan delay is normal. The fan on mine does the same thing. It's also very quiet for a while after startup, but will ramp up as the card gets hotter. Did you remember to plug in the PCIe power?

Maybe the pc gods killed it. Try having just the video card in the system without any other extra cards like pci sound card, network card, etc.

Oh...an Nvidia board :p. Well I guess the only other thing I can think of is to try the card in the other PCIe slot, if you haven't already.

Also, you're using an EPS12V to power the thing right? Not a 4-pin. Just checking off all the possibilities before suggesting an RMA/return.

you mean the mobo? yes, there is an 8 pin i think power port on the mobo and i have both cables plugged into it. was a bitch to get it plugged in with my hsf on so i took the fan off the heatsink and got it connected. there's also a molex port on the mobo too. i had a power cable in there also.

my original mobo had 1 4 pin connector and 1 molex connector on the mobo.

all right, my friend has the card and he is going to try to go home, test it and get it back to me before i leave work. that will be awesome if he can. if something's dead, i hope its the video card because of the warranty.

By any chance your new motherboard didn't require new motherboard mounting posts did it? I've had a motherboard not display video because I failed to remove an extra motherboard mounting post and it was shorting out the onbard video. LOL, after removing the board and getting a better look, I could see how a soder point and the post were in contact. After unscrewing the extra mounting post all was well.

i bet his motherboard is not posting with his e8400 and needs a bios update, so he thinks the vid card is dead. pontifex let us know if the card works for your buddy!

is that possible? why would it not work with the old hardware though? completely different mobo, cpu, and ram.

i got an old pci video card here at work that i am going to take home to test the mobos with. couple that with my friend testing the video card, i should be able to figure out what the problem is.

tried old psu, no luck, although i only have 1 4 pin connector for the cpu power slot. the mobo manual says if you only have 4 pin instead of 8 you can use 4 pin but it must got in a certain way. i can't put it in the way they want because it is shaped differently - unless the manual is wrong.

also tried running the mobo completely outside the case and still get no video. i don't know what the f--- else to do now.
