7th grade? That'll be rough. Good luck.

only job I could find...

Even with 4yrs of ee (undegrad) actual degree of b.s. in math and a masters in education...

and it's in rough area of phoenix in a very poor school district and they're starting a coop learning reading program that everybody teaches this year. So I'm a math teacher and a reading teacher now.

Yeah, it's going to be ROUGH, but I love kids and wouldn't want to be doing anything else.

...don't quote me on that until the end of the year please : P

BS in EE and Math, and this is the only job you can find? You are way over-qualified for a 7th grade teacher.
you need to move here, plenty of defense contractors jobs, $60k+

I'm guessing EE is not electrical engineering, but elementary education...but if you're right...dude you got hosed.

You should teach high school, at least some of the girls there are legal.

not for a teacher.

even if they're over 18, they're still off limits. haha.

ee is electrical engineering. I was going into my senior year when I realized I really didn't want to be an engineer (office politics, cubicles,...other engineers) and I had always wanted to retire into teaching, so I got a pure math degree instead : ). The 'only' job thing was just that in az/phoenix they have cut budgets so much that lots of teachers got fired. Stimulus money never really came in so only a portion got hired back. Even though there's a need for teachers, there's not enough money to pay them. Every district has cut back in some way...the financially responsible/best off basically didn't offer any raises...others had to lay off. And as with everything in life exp seems to trump other tangibles.

Thanks guys for the well wishes...I'll need them, from what other teachers have said I will be stopping lots of fights haha.

Whatever you do, don't try to make the little pricks think. Parents get mad at that stuff thinking that your trying to brush off your political ideal on them. Instead, make sure they can regurgitate all the BS they'll never remember in 10 years from their 300 page text book.

And don't forget to crush their confidence by laughing at their questions! Wins every time.

And don't say "there is no such thing as a stupid question". All it does is make students more self-concious.

Are the computers homepage ATOT? Let the twerps visit us, we'll teach them a thing or two.

God that place looks depressing.

This. Lol, No wonder kids would hate going to school, the place looks like a jail. No offense to your decorating or anything, which I like. Its just the lack of natural sunlight and the white floor/wall/ceiling combo would drive me nuts. Good luck though and hopefully everything works out well.

And what OS are those computers running, Windows 95? 😛

Preparing them for their eventual life in the big house after they drop out of school in 8th grade to join a gang.

You should at least post "No Guns Allowed" above the door and get yourself a bullet proof vest. You do have to make from the school to your car everyday.

Looks good. I had a few classes in high school that were in our basement, and this looks better than them. My mom is a kindergarten teacher, as is a friend of mine. I have another friend who teaches high school social studies (I think). All are tough jobs.

Good luck to you!

He did say it was in a VERY POOR area of Phoenix...most likely heavily Mexican.
This is a good opportunity for them to get used to the environment of the prison system in which they'll most likely end up doing time. 😀
/sarcasm

OP, best of luck to ya. I couldn't do it. 7th graders are at about the age where killing them makes more sense than educating them...😛

is that a temporary building or a more permanent structure?

my mom has a masters in math and the districts around here kept passing her up to hire high school math teachers with no math background. she taught community college for a while (she really appreciated those students, just about every last one was there to learn) and after about 2 years finally found a full time high school gig.
