Well done. I recently went from my 7800GT to a 7900GT for $50, since the 7900's are factory underclocked, a minor OC to 560/1600 made a huge difference (though not a 7900GTX difference). The 7900GT is also quieter and cooler.

Looks like a large performance increase across the board. I think the 7900GTX is about on par with two reference speed 7800GTs in most cases.

It's interesting that some of the compatibility problems have been fixed. Maybe they have also fixed that bug I was getting with my 7800GTs where alt-tabbing in some older games would result in BSODs (I haven't had this problem with the 6800 or X1900 cards).

By the way, in Descent 3, are you having any problems getting the game to remember the render depth setting? It seems that whenever I set that to anything above the minimum, it automatically drops down back to the minimum about a minute into the game (and the outdoor areas look a lot worse that way).

I never had a 7800 series card, but I went from an overclocked 6800 Ultra to this 7900GT and I saw massive increases as well. It was nice to get more than bragging rights from this upgrade. :p

BFG, did you notice any IQ differences between the two "generations" of NV cards?

Nice BFG, thanks.

I'm eyeing this superclocked evga 7900gt myself. It appears to fall just short of the GTX. There are no 256 GTXs are there?

Id let a few batchs get released of the superclocked before buying one. They seem have the most amount of RMA's so far. :p

Yes - it appears to be a game problem.

Yes, the quality setting with optimizations enabled on 7xxx cards is visibly worse than on 6xxx cards.

However high quality looks superb on 7xxx cards but I never really tested that setting on 6xxx cards so I can't compare.

Nice job BFG, On a side note, I never use "quality" I ALWAYS use HQ, so always the IQ is supurb for me. I dont even know why they put it in there, I have no shimmering either, but I am on a NEC FE1250+ CRT :D

I'm wanting to re-install Jedi Academy now, and I TOTALLY regret GIVING away my Elite Forces 2 :(

Nice Unreal screenshots. I haven't played that one in about 5 years - its makes me want to break it out again and try it on fast hardware. I think I had a 3dfx Banshee the last time I played it.

Wheres S3TC textures in Unreal? :p That'd be way more of a differance than some negligable AA increase.

WOW great job

But even though i will not upgrade to a 7900GTX, i will be upgradeing to whatever is next gen either the 8xxx series or X2xxx series lol. But at least i know right now there are cards that are twice as fast as my current on at the only res i work in... AGAIN GREAT JOB.

Now i hope Nvidia fixes the HDR problem, as playing AOE3 with HDR and AA gives me like 10FPS lol. ( i hear this is due to AOE3 use a different format to do HDR for NVIDIA cards due to lack of hardware and it is every taxing or something like that)

*edit* from the link below AOE3 uses a different HDR and AA method for Nvidia

Hmm.. Those benches don't seem to agree with my personal experience. Granted AOE3 is very hard game to bench (due to its heavy GPU/CPU load), when I tried playing it on my friend's rig (w/X1900XT) the frame rate jumped up and down like crazy. Indeed I think I saw very high frame rates on some areas but on others it got slow to the point of being choppy. Not sure if that's game developer's fault or the hardware's.. Is there any bench of AOE3 with FRAPS graphs or minimum frame rates?
