well quake 4 is pretty smooth. high quality, 1280x1024, 2xAA, all advanced settings except vertical sync are on. looks good, especially in the fact that i can actually SEE where im going and i DONT need a flashlight...haha sorry, ol' doom3 reference.

oblivion...meh, i uninstalled it.

im basically done benchmarking...anyone wants me to test out aoe3 or some game? i can borrow them from my friends or just d/l the demo.

So you didn't like Oblivion? I'd be interested in buying iti from you maybe...PM me with what you would want for it assuming it's for sale...

Doom3 is the only game that I really couldn't get into because of the annoying repetition and darkness. I downloaded a few mods though (the falken light mod for Flashlight on all guns) and I play sometimes with the lighting overridden so it's always bright. The darkness doesn't do anything for me in that game...

well i do like oblivion...i just need a beefier card to play it "the way it was meant to be played"...and im actually in the process of beating half lfe 2 episode one.

ill check out the mods for doom3...

btw, if anyone wants to know, my HL2 E1 settings (defaulted to) are 1280x1024, all high settings, 2xAA, 4xAF, HDR full, vertical sync or whatever it is disabled. runs pretty smooth and the HDR looks nice. im close to beating chapter 4...

i do like my 6600GT (585/1145 stock v/Zalman VF700), but it's only good for 1024 for farcry and fear :( UT2k4 i play at 1600x1200 with 2xAA/8xAF, hl2/CS:S at 1280/4xAA/8xAF...

It was fine when i had a 17" LCD as my primary, but with the 21" it is rather under powered ;)

You guys really crank up the settings. The highest I usually go is 1024x768 8xAF with Source games, Farcry, UT04, Quake 4, and Trackmania Sunrise/Nations. 1280x1024 with AA is too choppy for me so I guess i'm more of a framerate guy. Even still I could use a boost for Farcry, I love that game. :(

I gotta get one of those VF700 things . I haven't seen any artifacts with 540/1160 on stock Leadtek. Not a big overclock but it helps me feel better about myself :).

1024 should be fine with 4xAA for Hl2/CS:S, it's pushing a blistering fps even then ;)

Farcry i run 2xAA at 1024, which is borderline too slow for me, but it looks so horrible without AA at 1024...

UT2k4 you should be able to hit 4xAA at 1280 and not notice the diff in fps ;)

I've not played d3 since i replaced my 9800 pro, but from the benchmarks i've seen 2xAA should be pretty fast still at 1024...

I'm a self admitted AA whore. AF is of course mandatory.

i usually aim for 1280x1024, then proceed to turn up AA and other settings...AF is already on 2x or 4x depending on the game.

i may have gotten lucky with this card, cause its at 600/1.05 stable no artifacts...idles around 44C and loads around 65C.

ooh i cant wait to try out AoEIII...installing now.

mine's happy & artifact free, at 585/1145, loads at ~55'C, idles at 41'C :D That's with a VF700Cu tho, with the stock cooler at that speed i idled at about 62 and loaded at about 87'C after i reseated the hsf with AS5, 96'C before that ;)

Why are you fooling each other. I have a 6600GT, Amd 64 3200, 1gb ram.

All games without aa and af unless mentioned, drivers or high performance/performance

COD2: 10x7 max dx9, at best tolerable
MW: 10x7 max-crap, ok at med or so
BF2: tolerable at 10x7 med-high
SP CH3: crap at 10x7 low-high
Underground 2: 10x7 max 16x af: ok-good, maybe even excellent
FEAR: 10x7, mostly max but some powerful things at med with shadows on low, soft shadows off, I am talking of demo which probably doesn't have the patch: acceptable
Timeshift: 10x7, low-med or so

My friend plays BF2 on a Evga 6600GT slightly OCed, with 1GB of RAM, at medium settings, 1280X1024 and it stays above 40FPS 90% of the time.

I guess I'm a little spoiled. I get mad if I can't have at least 6XAA, 16XAF, highest detail on my 1440X900 monitor. Except Oblivion of course, I know I'm not going to get that detail for another year or so.

HL2 doesn't need much AA, but BF2 looks horrible without it. I guess that's the difference between a well-written game and a bad one.

Yeah, the 6600GT is definitely a good bang for buck card, especially since PCIe ones are going for ~$70 right now. I think that a 7600GT is a better buy for the budget midrange as its performance is much better, but that's just me :)

The 6600GT is now what the 9800 Pro once was, the darling of the value gamers, IMHO.

FEAR maybe fine at 1024*768 med, no soft shadows, so aa/af on 6600GT

please have a look at my post again, they contradict yours

GRAW demo: 800*600 low is crap, I only played for few minutes, maybe even less, I couldn't get out of the helicopter

i can take screenshots if you'd like with fraps enabled. i did specifically mention that i used directx7 mode in CoD2 and that directx9 kills my card. my nfsmw settings are exactly the same but im at 1280x1024 and im fine with the framerates (i didnt say they are above 60fps or any game for that matter). people say that i can turn up the settings to high on bf2 because of my ram. so...yeah.

is your card overclocked? that may be why im getting higher frames and setttings, or maybe even the fact for 2GBs of ram (helps in bf2 and fear a lot)...mine is overclocked quite high for the stock cooling that came with it.

and no...im not fooling anyone. why would i even lie about these benchmarks? to show that a 6600GT beats 7900GTX's in SLI? obviously not and its really...quite stupid if a person lies about his cards performance. this card came out in november of 2004, and everyone knows that a 6800GT (6600GT is roughly equal to a 6800nu when not using AA/AF) or higher beats this card (mostly, but at times the 6600GT is comparable because of its high clocks).

sorry, but i think its kinda wild that you come out of nowhere and say that im fooling everyone. our systems differ a lot and that obviously means we will achieve different performance.

end rant.

You all are making me get Oblivion. I bought two 7900GTX's to put in SLI but got so busy with school that I haven't played any games in two months. DOH!

yea the 6600gt is a nice card, in my second comp its happily playing HL2 (1024 * 768 4*AA 8*AF), and halo at 1280 * 960 16*AF.
Havent really tested any more, most games are on my main rig
Got Oblivion yesterday, so i will instal it today or tommorow.

If anyone wants i can instal it on my 6600gt comp and the 9600xt one to test playable resolutions.

EDIT: its a MSI 6600gt 128mg 550core/1100 mem

2gb doesn't make much difference for most games especially at such low settings.
faster gpu oc may only help by around 10%

even a 7600GT can play MW at 1024*768 MAX 16x AF and not higher, this is with 2gb ram, how can you even think of going to 12X10

you are clearly a dimwit if you can't see that we had NO (that's 0/none/not any) games in common when you first posted ;)

As far as i can see, i'm not misleading anyone, but i can't see you can contradict me when you didn't list any games in common.

As far as FEAR is concerned, which i posted later, i think it plays fine at 1024/everything maxed/no soft shadows/no AA/4xAF, and so does everyone who's played it on my machine...

i would like you to! :)

akshayt, 2GB makes a difference in FEAR and BF2. ive seen it become choppy on my friends amd athlon64 3200+ winchester oced to 2.5Ghz, 2x512MB PC4000 ram, and has a 6800nu unlocked and oced while playing fear.

how can i even think of going to 1280x1024...? well, to be an ass, i just increased the resolution and made the settings to medium, 2xAA. ;) otherwise, it runs smooth for me. gets a tiny bit choppy at various points of the game, but otherwise its smooth enough for me (i dont usually play racing games above 60fps - those are reserved for fps! :D)
