My 5900@5950 Has Artifacts Now!

I solved this issue...

I bought this "refrence" card or "engenering sample" of a 5900 ultra, that was flashed to a 5950, it ran fine for about a month, then out of the blue it starting creating artifacts, and once they start the screen sometimes (most of the time) blinks on and off. At first I thought it was maybe the drivers, but its not, the artifacts happen even at post, and with all different driver versions.

Does Anyone Have an Suggestions??

It would only be out of the blue if you (or person before you) did nothing to the card. The card has been flashed therefore will offer unpredictable performance/problems.

The core/memory may have suffered some damage from running out of spec.
If you ask "Why would flashing the card damage it?" I will find a way to reach through my
monitor and shake and slap you. 😉

hahaha, yea well i did know that, and i have tried to contact the orignal owner for the orignal bios, but he does not have it anymore, dont get me wrong i know there is risk when flashing to 5950, but it was out of the blue, hence something did not go drastically wrong before failure. thanks for the .02 though ... ass

You better watch who you call an ass. Keysplayr is a respected forums member who has posted here much more than you. If anyone should be called an ass it should be you for posting this topic and then getting on his back when he answers.

As for the topic, you probably did some damage with it being flashed to a 5950. Yeah it will run there but have you ever heard of YMMV (your mileage may vary). You are running the card out of spec therefore it is not garaunteed to work.

Try down clocking via coolbits or rivatuner and see if that helps. You should be able to find original bios on the net. There was a site that had pretty much all the 5900 series bios but I forgot the site info.

Make sure the fan is actually running on the card. Also, your card could be overheating because of dust build up in the heatsink. Use Canned air to clean it out.

Also, what PSU do you have? Maybe the voltage is a tad shaky?

If this doesnt help, then you gonna have to look at either downclocking or BIOS revision for the card.

Pourquoi? Personal insults are common currency here (why give it if you can't take it).... and he did find a bios that works, good show.

I'm starting to think you, Hard Warrior, and EpKing are all the same person.
First HardWarrior says "beating people up is the coin of the realm" in his part of the world, and now you say "personal insults are common currency here".

Coincidence? Perhaps. "Great" minds think alike.

In any case, the perplexing person here is the OP. His card was way OCd, artifacts aren't happening "out of the blue" they're happening because he thought a 5900 can last at 5950 speeds and has damaged his card.

Doesn't take a great mind to know where the nvidia salesman and his sidekick are coming from. 😉

But you are right, we must be all the same person.

LOL, we are all a bunch of characters, 'aint we?

Oh before I forget, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone. This includes the OP even thought he called me an a$$. Hey, it's Christmas.:music::beer::music:

At least I'm only virtual. 🙂

Since it seems that many of the "major players" in this forum are posting to this thread - likewise, merry christmas, happy hollidays, and have great new video card. 🙂

In any case, the A$$ here is the OP. His card was way OCd, artifacts aren't happening "out of the blue" they're happening because he's dumb enought to think a 5900 can last at 5950 speeds and has damaged his card.

He'll be trying to RMA like a welfare mom soon.

My 5900 lasted at 5950 flash for 14 months.

So anyways are you saying personal insults are NOT common here and then saying he is going to be trying to RMA like a welfare mother? Seems like a personal insult by a lifer to me.

my 5900nu was running at 5950+++ speeds (550/1000) for the 12 months + rollo before I ripped the memory off my card taking the water block off I epoxied on there... No problemo. I imagine it would still be atrifact free, problem free had'nt I physically destoryed it.

I could cite 100's of other examples of positive overclcoking results and ZERO negative like you discribe... I think you're ignorant to the effects of overclcoking and blow them out of propotion. With proper cooling and control you can, if fortunate enough to get a capable chip, run at thier more expensive brothers settings and sometimes much much more without any ill effects.

Just saying.

Zebo-
You know as well as I do that OCing is a crapshoot that you can stack the odds more in your favor by additional cooling.

You also know odds are his card is damaged because he apparently didn't hit the "good silicon" lottery.

You also know when you're running a card that far above spec, failure doesn't occur "out of the blue" it was induced.

I do apologize for assuming he would RMA, and will edit my post accordingly.

NP...I was not offended by that...but the labling of OCers dumb...I think just the opposite if smartly employed.

lol, its funny though some people take things much differently, its coomon with my peers to call each other an ass all the time, im as much an ass as anyone...

EDIT: Also i do know the risk involved in overclocking, and thought that was obvious to all of us, and my questions were addressed assuming that i would receive an answer to how to fix this card that was raped by overclocking. I guess assuming has truy done its job on this thread.
