Congrats. :)

I'm 6' even myself, and I usually stay between 215-220. I could stand to lose a bit of extra belly weight myself.

as a skater, you deke to the side and then backhand it in the 5-hole, no goalie has a chance anyway - they gotta spread them legs to move laterally.

If they butterfly, ya quickly learn that on your next shot. ;)

I'll tell ya one thing I hate the most - when goalies are aggressive with their poke check...

Well, not if they don't bite on the deek. Plus, a backhand is not as easy to keep accurate..

Good ploy though...but I'm sure most goalies have seen that a zillion times by now... ;)

they could go for the double pad stack but that's really committing... better make sure the guy is in alone... ;)

Or if he stands his ground, there's always top shelf ;)

There's a really good goalie that does that in my league, so annoying! I learned that you just have to be patient, he will usually bite/go for pokecheck but just wait it out and you can get top shelf easily or go around him. But he's like a freakin Hasek and will make lucky saves.

Personally, my favorite move is the forehand->backhand->forehand deke/headfake to backhand top shelf over a sprawled out goalie thats twisted inside out of his jockstrap by that time :p

I admit that I hate that shot (though a poke check fixes that), but I usually get more forehand fake > backhand shot to stick side.

I've always wondered this - a goalie told me it doesn't make a difference...

The puck is black... if I use black tape on my blade, does it really affect your sight of the puck when the shooter takes a wrister - say about 5-15 feet out ? I'd rather take a shot than deke so I'm looking for advantages. I don't think the white tape is helping me any...

It doesn't make a difference, though a lot of traffic in front of the crease will help a lot. Personally, I'd rather face a shot than a deke, though a shot 5ft away has a good chance of going in if it's in the 5hole or in a corner.

Actaully my 5 hole is not that bad and I can stop that shot most of the time. It's the patient guys who do that and go for my blocker side that get me.......... I gotta work on that.

I have a great Poke Check :)
