My 4200 died

OK guys, here is the story, if you have not read some of my previous threads i will update you. i have had a series of bad events (typing this on my back up of my back up pc) and the most recent is the death of my 4200. I had just replaced my mobo after my PSU killed the mobo and it worked fine in 2d. i used it to install windows and it was on for about 3 hours in 2d, then after i went into 3d it worked for 10 minutes, then died. Fan still turning, but no picture, i cant even see the POST. I put my TnT2 and everything on the PC is working fine, cept the speed. Wierdest thing i ever seen. It is under warrenty and i will RMA it to new egg. they will send me a new retail one back. I was going to wait till Doom3 came out before upgrading my video. but i could dump my 4200 when it gets back and get a better card.

1. Theories on the death of the video card?
2. Theories on anypossible way to repair it? (prefer this to RMA, but its doubfull that it can be fixed)
2. How much could i expect get on Egay for a New Retail boxed ASUS 4200 128mb 8x
3. How much do you think i could sell it for around March of next year used.
4. Was my 4200 holding my system back?

current system
A7n8x deluxe
2500 barton (planning to hit 3200 once my cooling system is working properly again)
1gig corsair xms pc3200

1. Freak accident
2. What's the point? Just send it back
2. FS\FT forum, and maybe ~$100 if you're lucky
3. About $75
4. Yes

1. No clue.
2. No clue.
2. I'd say 100-110, more if you do like everyone else on there and charge ridiculously high shipping prices.
3. 55-75, more if it can perform ok in upcoming games.
4. Yes.

1. Who knows?
2. Just send it back.
2. $100
3. $60
4. No, use it until you find the next bargain.

1. The two caps near the VGA port (They are about the size of a cigarette butt). They are probably 1000ufd caps and they may look "puffed up" and may have actually pulled away from the circuit board or they may even be leaking a dark fluid. Check and see if this is the case...

2. Get some caps from Jameco or Radio Shack (if they even carry them anymore...) and simply replace the cheap stock caps with good quality units. This is what I did when my Gainward TI4200 died. It fixed it and it has never worked better...

2. Not much ($80)

3. Even less...

4. Not really... (unless you have money to burn)

Unfortunatly Radio Shack doesn't carry jack **** anymore. All you get is a blank stare if you ask for anything other than an RCA, Compaq, or Sprint product, let alone an led, resistor, cap, etc. etc.:disgust:
