My 3rd RRoD

I'm not even mad, because I fully expected this to happen sooner or later, and pleasantly surprised that this one lasted 8 months.

My first 360 RRoD 13 months after purchased, and I was so pissed because it died just after one month that the warranty had expired. So I paid MS $140 to get it repaired (MS later refunded this after they announced the RRoD warranty extension).

One month later, the repaired consoled also RRoD. Sent it in again but this time MS just sent me a refurbished console (Aug. 2006 manufactured date). I wasn't expecting it to last, so eight months were actually quite a surprise.

Their customer service has actually gotten better from the last time I called them. That "Max" automated menu guy is still annoying as heck, but this time they added an option, "Repair", where you can go directly to a CSR without having Max going through all his troubleshooting steps before you can actually talk to a live person.

The CSR guy was nice and since I was a returning customer >.>, he expedited my repair process - they're overnighting the box for me to send the console in.

Who knows, maybe I'll end up getting one of the newer consoles as replacement so this won't happen again, but knowing my luck, it will be a refurbished launch unit again.

I am actually hoping mine dies it in a few months. I got mine for $199 after $200 in rebates. I also got a 2 year warranty that refunds my entire purchase price. If it breaks maybe I can premium system with HDMI.

Could be wrong but don't expect any of the new Falcons to come back as refurbs for a while. They have to get them in before they can ship them out and they only been around for 2-3 months. Maybe at some point MS will wise up and just start tossing the launch boards out and replacing them with new Falcons.

Could it be that you are placing your unit in a situation that makes it more likely to overheat?

You make it sound like an RROD is inevitable for anyone with an earlier xbox. The truth is, the vast majority of people never have this problem.

Oh, I don't know about that... The only stories I've heard are of the "out of my 5 friends, only 1 is on his/her first one" variety. Ours recently died, that doesn't help.

That sucks.

I got my 360 back last week from MS and they replaced the unit with a new one that was manufactured 12/25/2007. I'm now getting disc read errors on it. After doing some research, I find that I have an older Hitachi drive in it instead of the newer Benq drives, and they gave me an older Zephyr system instead of the newer Falcon units! This freakin sucks cause now i probably have to send it out again if the disc read issues occur. :(

The room it's in is constantly 69 degrees and it's not in a cabinet or anything - fully open space where air can flow freely. I even dust up every week to keep the thing clean. It's just the fact that early revision of the 360 are very shitty.

I had to get my 3rd 360 after my first 2 RROD'd. I felt it dying last night as it kept freezing frequently, but today it bit the dust. Instead of sending it in, I purchased a brand new one to use. I'd rather know I'm getting a new, reliable system instead of a somewhat fixed, possibly going to die again system.

Yikes. I've been wondering how many of the 360 sales in the past few months were re-buys. Guess I can confirm 1 now...

I've been enjoying this "bullsh1t of a console" for 1.5 years without a problem. Has the best selection of games out there, wouldn't trade it for any other console.

What he said. I have no loyalty to MS, I just like good games, and the MS console has more of them.

That's bullshit, I know more people with launch day consoles personally IRL than those who have had it go bad.

That being said, I know of nobody personally that has seen or knows of or heard of a PS3 going bad the same way.

*yawn*

go buy a new one...i'm sure they'd love for people to keep inflating their sales by buying replacements.

As for me, my system still works like it always has. Luck? maybe...

Stupid MS? They fixed your system...if it works then it works. if not, have them fix it until you're happy with it.

So I got my 360 back yesterday. It's the same one I sent in. Took it out of the FedEx box and noticed right away there's some click-clacking inside the console. Loose part!?

Plug it in and turn it on. The dashboard itself booted up, but console makes this excruciatingly LOUD noise. We all know the 360 DVD drive is loud, but this noise is 3 times as worst. I'm guessing whatever is loose inside the console is causing the noise.

Called MS back, and the CSR was unable to process a new repair order because their system was down and told me to call back tomorrow. The saga continues...

Damn, what a hassle. Sorry you have to go through this--what a bummer. :(

I've had one 360 RR, and it made me very thankful that I got the extended warranty at EB. I was in and out with a new 360 in a hour.

I just bought my 360 on Saturday. I'm hoping my experience is more like yours than theirs.

I got a replacement with a 9/06 manufacturing date. I would say you got lucky.

I think they are all refurbs of older ones that were returned. It's hard to imagine them giving you guys a brand new one. I'm sending mine in too but I don't think the date is going to mean I'm getting a new one. Doesn't make any economical sense

Different strokes for different folks I guess... I got a 360 a month or two after it launched and kept it for about a year and a few months (think I bought it in December and got rid of it in March, but not three months later March) until I got rid of it. There just flatout weren't any games I gave a shit about. I got Gears of War the day it came out and good GOD was that a major disappoint. I have never hyped (and only moderately so) a shittier game than that. The only other game I owned, was Perfect Dark, which, surprise! was a piece of shit too.

No, fuck that console. The only thing I care about to this day is Mass Effect, and it'll surely find it's way to the PC like Bioware's other games.

I think it's hilairous that people keep buying/replacing their 360s - The OP is HAPPY that his 3rd one died, and that it lasted 8 months??

Geez. My NES that I got in 1989 still works. So does my SNES, PSX, N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube, and PS3. I'd have been infuriated if one had died while it was still the "in" console - maybe replaced it ONCE - after that, moved on to the next.

That's just me though. When I buy something for $400+, I generally expect it to work.
