So, I think that Microsoft heard me talking about how my XBOX 360 is working after two years, and decided to hit the killswitch to make mine RROD. 🙁
Almost exactly two years after I bought my XBOX 360, it RROD'd last night. It showed no signs that anything was wrong...just boom, dead. I had a Rock Band 2 session the night before, and had just watched MythBusters HD on NetFlix a few hours before it died. My wife got home from work, turned on the XBOX to watch some NetFlix streaming, and I heard her ask:
"Why is the XBOX flashing red?"
I just shook my head and . It was kept in a wide open space with plenty of room to breathe, and I kept it horizontally placed. It was a Zephyr model 20 GB Pro with HDMI.
Good thing I decided to buy Batman: AA for the PS3! But now, I'm down to literally two console games to play: Batman and MGS4. This especially stinks though, because I had just used the Rock Band: ACDC Export code the night before it died. :|
I should have known this was coming, but this incident has really destroyed my trust in the Microsoft XBOX 360. Now I'm one of many thrown on the RROD repair treadmill, sending mine back in for repair, getting mine back "repaired"/a similar model, never knowing if/when the fixed/replaced XBOX will break down. I had a launch PSOne and a fat PS2 (with DREs) die on me with widely known and reported issues, and that shook my trust in Sony, but at least Sony fixed the problems with your console and they never happened again. With the 360, you just never know. The repairs might take, or they might not, and back it goes. You might get a replacement that is good, or it could be bad, but you won't know until it dies.
I also heard that you have to provide your own box for shipping now? Is this true? I've never had a reason to investigate the RROD repair/replacement process before...do you have to pay shipping charges too? How long does the process take from start to finish?
I know, I know...QQ more, etc., but I just find it ironic that I've been recently talking about how my 360 has been reliable, and poof, it goes up in smoke.
