I used my 30" Gateway (Do NOT ever buy a monitor from them!!!) for work and it has been wonky for the last 2 months, but it finally gave it up today.

That said, I need a new 30" very quickly. Samsung doesn't make them any more...on newegg, they have two:

HP LP3065 (but it has a whopping 12ms response time!)

LG W3000H-Bn (5ms)

Both have a 3 yr warranty (as opposed to Gateway and their 1 yr...again, do not buy from Gateway!) and are close in price.

Dell has no 30" in their outlet and the new ones are $300-$400 more than the above two and ships in weeks vs neweggs where are in stock.

Help?

Anyone have any personal exp. with either of these two monitors? Any others that I should be looking at?

Thanks as always y'all!

The HP would be the better choice more than likely...

It looks like the LG panel is using a GTG measurement to display response time... which is about the same as the HP GTG times.

Also, if your doing work on these monitors and little gaming then response time really shouldn't be a major issue.

Here's a Review of the HP

Anandtech has one too I think...

Of course the Dell monitor is IMO better than the HP monitor...

So.. why not send it in for replacement if it's within a year?

usually it is fairly easy to fix lcd monitors. I have fixed a few with a wide variety of problems. I'm sure a quick google search can have you well on your way to fixing it.

wow..... I just googled your monitor. Not so good. Problem is very widespread and seems to be a very high failure rate with nobody being able to fix it. Ouch, sorry man

I have the HP monitor and have noticed no ghosting at all on it, awesome for gaming. I was using a 4ms TN panel before that so I don't say that from lack of experience with a fast monitor.

I'm pretty sure the Dell 3007WFPHC is the same panel as the HP except that the HP has three DVI inputs rather than one like the Dell. At least that is what I remember from the research i did when I bought mine.

Lava, yeah, I know. I actually started a thread about my issue w/ Gateway a few months ago (search and you'll see how bad Gateway is), but I had it seen by a local shop and they couldn't do anything w/ it. I'm basically SOL.

As for the Dell...yeah, I'm going that route.

I play poker, professionally, so hence why I use it for work, but yeah, I also game on it in my spare time. Thanks, y'all.

eta: I do find it interesting that most mfg's have just stopped making them. From what I've gathered, it's due to reliability issues and not being able to keep them up and running.

Ebay your monitor as-is and grab a few $100s. Then head over to best buy and grab a 37" to 40" LCD TV for $500 to $700 and use that as a monitor. $1219 for a 30"? BAH!

A 37" to 40" 1920 x 1080 LCD TV will offer far less detail than a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor. There's a reason why good 30" monitors sell for $1200 or more.

In addition, a 37" to 40" TV is simply not designed to be viewed from only a few feet away as is a computer monitor. The pixels on the TV will be huge and the color gamut is going to be awful.
