I plan to buy this build real soon (at least 2 weeks from now), so I started planning the parts I need. My goal with the computer is primarily for gaming. I have never owned a desktop myself ,but have plenty of experiance building them, do thats not a problem.

Some goals:
-The price of $2k needes to include a monitor and keyboard. I am willing to go over budget slightly if I have too, but only if its worth it.
-Good gaming performance
-I can pop in my car if i need to take it somewhere, so I don't want it to massive
-Not going to be too noisy
-I really do want an SSD
-Because of my Prime Membership, I would like to buy everything on Amazon.

So knowing all this, I put together a preliminary build. What do you think?

Right now the build stands at $50 under budget.

why not use a 2550k instead of the 2700k also why not use a 7970 gpu not a 580

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-...3208523&sr=8-1

2550k is 229

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-FX797ATDBC...3208641&sr=1-8 7970 is 589

I am not as sure about the gpu's but your saving on the cpu is 100 bucks a lot of people on site say the 2550k oc's great.

you are not using the integrated graphics so the i5-2550k seems like a good fit for you

maybe the caviar black over the blue

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digita...3208938&sr=8-1

it is about 30 more. so if you get the cpu for 95 less and spend 36 more on the hdd you are about 60 bucks or so ahead. you gain with the hdd and if you are gaming the i5-2550k should be a good fit.

you may need some fans and some y cables

this was a good cable for me. As for fans I really like these

but they are sold out. my builds are for quiet as top priority ht second hence a bluray drive then gaming

I'd stick with a 2500k/2550k as you'll save $100 and won't see a difference.

I'd also look at a Crucial M4 for the SSD

and right now the GTX 680 is worth it over the 580. (I'd also say get a 7970 used if you can for 440, either are good options)

These threads generally get more attention in the General Hardware section.

There's a sticky there with a survey to fill out that helps everyone give the best possible feedback.

2K is so much money. I spent around 250 bucks on a computer 3 years ago (not including keyboard, mouse, and monitor) and it is plenty fast. I've spent another couple hundred on upgrades along the way: a 120GB SSD, faster processor, more RAM, and faster video card. So for about $450 I got:

Dual core 3.8GHZ OC'd AMD processor (possiblity to unlock to quad core but my southbridge is too old so can't do it on this particular motherboard). don't need more than 2 cores anyway for what I do.

8GB RAM (First 4GB I got free after rebate from newegg back when RAM was really, really cheap)

5770 Radeon video card

Motherboard

Case

Powersupply

120GB Agility 3 SSD (OS drive)

640GB WD Black HD (data drive)
