My 2005fpw just turned pink

I just got my 2005fpw and have been using it for a few hours. Suddenly everything took on a pink hue. ???

What connection (VGA/DVI) are you using? The only thing I can think of is that maybe the cable connections aren't tight...

VGA.

I'm thinking it may be my laptop's video card, although the laptop's screen looks fine when I switch it over. I'm going to dig up a spare computer to test it out on.

Well, I tried the connection and it didn't change anything. I am on a second computer (desktop) and it is exhibiting the exact same problem. Very pinkish. So it's either the VGA cable or the monitor itself. Unfortunately I don't have a spare VGA cable handy to test it with. Also, the 2005fpw came with the VGA cable already screwed in to the monitor, which was kind of weird, since none of the other cables were plugged in. Any other 2005fpw owners have this too?

Dell tech support: Over 8 minutes to get connected
Dell tech: No clue about anything
Transfer to another tech: Still waiting (14 minutes in)

🙁

35 minutes total on the phone trying to find someone who could help me. The last guy said to go to their online chat. *sigh* maybe it really is worth $799 to get an Apple 20" LCD...

It really does sound like a connection. When you "tried" the connection, did you physically disconnect the cable from both ends ? Sometimes reseating it helps.

Other than that, I think you are stuck with dell support. My condolences 🙁

Yes, I tried connecting it to two different computers and completely unplugged the VGA and the power cables. I have been working with tech support for over an hour now, roughly five different people. Best I've gotten so far is 3-5 days for a replacement, stipulated wait time. Maybe the Apple monitor is really worth the extra $400...

Success! New one will be shipped and at my door within 3 days, complete with stuff to send the old one back in. Aye aye aye, if I didn't like their products so much...

Update:

I got the new one, its been working great so far. I contacted them today; someone from UPS will be by within 48 hours to pick up the old one. Very nice, persistance pays off! 😀

ps - it's a really terrific monitor, I'd highly recommend it! Can't say much about Dell's service in general, but the hardware is nice! Took me 2 hours to get through to someone who finally solved my problem (and it was through their online chat no less!), but everything is just peachy now.

Be happy you didn't buy the Apple. If you want I could dig up some links, but they have some interesting issues, and If I remember correctly the Dell specs higher too. I worked in retail for a while while in school and we had alot of problems with the 20 and 23 inch models. I personally own the 2005 and LOVE it. Its the only dell product I own.

Apple = cool looks, DVI input, tilt
Dell = half-price, DVI/VGA/s-video/composite input, 4-port USB hub, tilt/rotation/twist, PIP, lots of image adjustments

Dell "for teh win" 🙂

Sounded like just a bad video cable really. Did you ever test a new video cable?

Yup, sure did. Same results. The power-only test showed that it was defective as well, so it didn't matter what cable I used (tried it anyway tho). Very pink and very posterized. Like looking at a high-res photo at 16-bits instead of 32-bits.

I've seen this many times before; it's a problem with the VGA connector or cable (you're missing some of the color signals; the green one in particular if your display turns neon magenta). Usually this is a bad or loose video cable (or one with a missing/bent pin), but occasionally one of the pins/solder joints internal to either the video card or monitor goes bad.

If replacing the cable doesn't help, it's either the video card output or the monitor. If the monitor displays the same issue on another system/video card (or the second port of your video card), it's the connector on the monitor end. You might take a close look at the VGA connector on the monitor side and see if anything is obviously wrong (something wedged into a pin hole, etc.) But unless there is something obvious you can fix, RMA the display if it is still under warranty.

Yup, already did, got here earlier this week 🙂 Definitely on the monitor's end. I swapped VGA cables and always swapped computers, same result. New monitor works just dandy. You win some, you lose some, you deal with tech support, you cry, and a few days later everything is all better lol.

Ah. Sorry, missed your post in the middle there where you said the new one had come in and fixed it. It's easier if you go back and edit your first post (and thread title) so that it's clear your problem has already been fixed. 😛

Glad to hear it's resolved, though.

imo, it's a great LCD. that S-IPS panel is also used in the Apple Cinema display, IIRC.

i have my main rig using DVI and an old P4 that's using VGA connected to my 2005FPW and the difference is night and day.
