Sorry for this, I forgot how to do it so a quick google search reminded me how.
"Do you type $.05 when you want to type 5¢ because the cent symbol isn't on your keyboard? Just hold down the Alt key and enter 0162 on your number keypad. "

Now, can someone point me to a complete list that includes the copyright symbol and all the rest?

not all of us know all the alt commands. I dont. I know that i can get some really weird symbols from it though but i just type .05 not ... er 5...doesnt work for me anyway...
It takes longer to do the alt commands too, for me anyway .05 is fast.

I always used Character Map when I needed to get those higher characters or anything like that. It shows keystrokes for most of them I think.

If you mean an online list like on a website somewhere, I don't know of any.

ok, I found another. It has the cent symbol listed as alt+155 (v.s. alt+0162) like mchammer said. Why is there more than one way to do this? More importantly, why is there a alt code for regular alpha character? For example, alt 97 makes an a. Alt 65 makes a big A. why would anyone need this?

They just make alt codes for all of the ASCII characters. They didn't specifically say, "maybe people will get tired of typing 'A' the usual way." :p

And you're all nuts. ;)

You know what? I had this huge list that I did throughout the school year of all the ALT + 0001 to 600+ :D Too bad the system admin had to delete all our folders a week before school was out so I didn't back it up in time.

Cool. I always wondered what the ASCII Code was, and was always too lazy to find out.
I Know that Alt 169 was © and Alt 174 was ®, from doing my webpages.

Thanks for the link. More stuff to know, that i'll probally neverneed!

Look in the back of almost any old MS-DOS manual, and there'll be a list of the standard ASCII ones!
