Sunday at the local computer show I purchased a ASUS A7V and a retail Duron 700 (week 23 and unlocked by the way)and a chrome orb.

Ran the system up to 950mhz and was stable but wouldn't go further. Backed it down to 900mhz @1.70 and put the cover on. Right now I am at 51C CPU temp and 34 MB temp.

Am I OK with these settings?

Asus A7V
Duron 700@900
128megs of generic ram
Stealth S540
Memorex 2x2x6 CD-RW
Pioneer 32X CD-ROM
Generic PCI sound card (Creative chip?)

Sorry, at idle. It will go to 55 at full load, but the room it is in is currently 80. I might be able to back off the voltage a little, but so far I am having no problems. Also I am running the ASUS A7V rev. 1.02 1004a, and have heard that this revision tends to inflate the temp readings 5 or 6 degrees. Is that true?

Thanks,
Al

Thanks TuffGuy.

I backed down to 850mhz and reduced the voltage to 1.65(showing 1.696 actual) Temps are still a little high, right now at idle I am at 47 CPU & 30 MB.

Well, i have a crap GlobalWin FOP32 and when running my chip at 800Mhz and 1.5V, i get 49 degrees C. Can you believe that??? It's been at 49-50 degrees for the past 36 hours while i alternated between running RC5 and doing DivX encoding.

55C under full load is fine. In fact, it's mostly irrelevant... as long as it's stable I wouldn't worry about temp as long as you're using paste and a decent HS/Fan.

I've heard reports of people running 800MHz Durons at 1.05GHz and hitting 85C under full load. Durons are speced to run at 90C or less anyway.

Is there such a thing as an 800Mhz Duron at the moment?

I hit 59-60 degrees when at 1070Mhz and that's cracking RC5.

There is no retail duron 800, they just released the 750 a couple of weeks ago. Also the duron is spec'd at 90c, but thats measured on the die, which is on the other side of the chip from your temp. probe. If someone is running a retail duron 800@85 degrees C there probably using it to reel in a big fish. And if they're running a duron 600@800 at 85c they may have forgotten to put on the heatsink.

jinsonxu, are you running a duron at 1070?

LOL, my sentiments exactly.

I reduced the speed. Doing 1070Mhz required my ram to be clocked to PC100 222 instead of PC133 222. My PC100 SDRAM maxed out at 139Mhz.

so you get it to 1070 MhZ and it's 1/8 of a blink of an eye quicker than it was at 900?????.........what's the point supposed to be anyway....is it like the mountain that's there and just has to be climbed.........HUH so where's Hillary now?
