My 1600xt runs at 71C

Any idea whats wrong with it, I took off the side of my dell case to let air get it but it doesn't help that much.

and it happens when I am not doing anything that graphics heavy, when I do stuff like that it beeps because I think it is overheating

Is it just that Dell's cases suck? Or is there another problem that you could think of?

When does the card beep? When you do stuff like that. What stuff?

My bad, I mean 71c.

It beeps when I do heavy graphics stuff like play Oblivion/Sup-Com, or stuff like that in general.

Are you sure the card is beeping? 71C really isn't all that high for a high load temp. I have a passively-cooled 8600GT that gets up to nearly 70C under load and I don't have any issues. Mine's in a Dell E520 and the cooling is decent in this case as it is in most Dell cases. I've run a couple cards in this computer so far and the temps have been reasonable.

I've never heard of video cards beeping?? (although I could be wrong... but my X1600 Pro doesn't *beep*)..

Sure it's not the mainboard telling you the CPU is overheating?

71C seems fine to me.

hmm should be fine, but if its beeping then theres a problem. are u sure theres good airflow in your case? enough cool air feeding into the graphics card? whats your room temperature? video card's do beep, but not all for the same reason

As has been said before, 71C under load is perfectly fine. Beeps usually come from the motherboard and I don't know how a video card could beep without a speaker unless it goes through software.

What are your idle temperatures?

If you're really concerned, you can always put a 12 inch fan facing the side of your computer with the side panel off.

There's one possibility. For whatever reason, I'm a little paranoid sometimes and I've replaced coolers just to put them back on again. Well, one time I found there was a reason for doing so. The thermal grease had been put on the SIDE of the core, not directly on it. That's like putting a drop of cold water on a hot skillet.

You could always remove the cooler just to see. Then clean it with some Q-tips, rubbing alcohol and put some Arctic Silver Ceramique. I know some people prefer AS5, but some people say it sticks. You'd have a hard time removing the cooler again with AS5. BTW, you put some like the size of half a grain of rice right on top of the core and let the pressure of the heatsink spread it. That way, it won't introduce air bubbles.

Look at the coolers on newegg. There's lots of them.
