My kids school called me and my ex to see where our boys were since they were not at school...I thought that they were at school, no reason not to be. The principal goes to my ex's house and knocks on the door, they dont answer. My ex calls me and I leave work and head to her place. Kids said they didnt feel like going to school so I reamed them both out and took them to school. Spoke to the teachers and principal and asked that if this happens again, call the police. That will scare the bejeezers out of them. Unfortunately they have now lost all priveledges for 1 month at my place, no dinners out, no PS2/Xbox/Gamecube ,no tv and no computers. Its just homework time now. I hope they learn their lesson by this. Oh and did they ever looked pissed and embarased sitting in class.

Excellent job on the punishment.

I only skipped school once to play soccer with my friends all day (I was 12 or 13 years old) . Never got caught, but didn't feel the need to do it again .

Regards

**Waiting for all the non parents to come in and defend these kids because its part of the "growing up" to skip school.

Geez, they only tried to skip school for one friggin' day. The cops? Grounded for a month? WTH?

Its the principal of it and the part about the cops is more of a scare tactic so they realize the seriousness of this. When they realize how good they have it here with all the "toys" gone for a while, they will give it a second thought to do something like this again. I doubt that they will do it again after when they saw me walk into the house. They thought that their mom would be a pushover and they could walk all over her.

I don't believe in corporal punishment.

That said, the day one of my kids skips school is the day I tan their ass.

Wow, no Xbox? Maybe that will make your kids play outside. 😛

BTW, I didn't have this problem as I kid. If I had been caught then much pain would have been in my future... 😛

i actaully pulled the same thing when i was little
except i was caught skipping school AND smoking in 5th grade (so i was maybe 10 or so)

my parents did about the same thing for a punishment (pretty much no anything except school work for about a month or 2)

then the next year i lit a dumpster on fire, got caught by the police and my parents did the same type of punishment (except it was for about 6 months, and i had to pay for the dumpster)

looking back it sucked big time, but i seem to have a better head on my sholders because of it

Yeah for sure...

I might not let them play games and everything, but I wouldn't have the police called on an 11 & 13 year old...

Hell, I did it when I was a kid and never had the police called on me... I turned out fine...

You sir are a fool. The kids will learn on their own what's acceptable and what isn't. Kids make mistakes, they learn from them, they'll mess up their own life and learn the hard way. Shouldn't deprive them of videogames =)

I completely agree with you, good job, damn fine parenting. I'm sick of parents giving in to their kids and in the end they don't learn any responsibility and discipline. My parents ran a tight ship when I was a kid and now looking back I thank them for it.

QFT!

haha. I'm sure you're going to be one of those parents that never spanks their children. Or gives them a "timeout" 😀

QFT. I hope everything turns out well.

Its really not going to turn out that well, they are probably already not that socially oriented. He embarrassed them in front of everyone, and now they can't do anything for a month. This is just the start of a horrible social life later in school.

*shrug* ain't my problem tho. Thats probably what happened to a lot of people here.

Threatening to call the cops just makes you look like a hardass. If you look like a hardass, your kids aren't going to go to you for help if they need it. They're never going to open up to you when they have problems and will probably end up dealing with them in the wrong way, which will piss you off again. And so the cycle repeats

Too late now though

So not true...are you a parent...the issue of calling the police is from the school which I totally support. In the event that is was something totally different from skipping school I welcome the police to drop by and see if they are alright at least plus having a figure of authority(law) show up means in itself that this is a serious matter, not a joke.

Reminds me of my next door neighbors several years ago. They had a teenaged son who got his driver's license. They bought him a car and told him that screwing up would lose him the car. He didn't believe them and, a few weeks later, took the car and some friends out to play hooky for the day. His mom and dad sold the car and his mom, for 6 weeks, drove him to school, took him by the hand and walked him to class. Not only did his next car require him to save up the purchase price, but all the other teenagers in the neighborhood were scared straight.

This thread reminds me of when I was like a fresman in highschool and I walked back home from school. I got dropped of by a parent, but instead of going to class, I just walked right home. Well around lunch time, my father desides on coming home for lunch, I freak out, run and hide in the closet. So im hiding there for like an hour and a half while he is doing ****** around the house, blaring country music all over. Now that I think back at it, it was kinda funny, but then, I had never been so scared in my life. 😛
