My 1.6a will not hit 2.1

Am I the first?

I built two systems recently both with 1.6a's and P4B-266C Mobo's. Both cpu's have a pack date on 4/3/02 and both on stock cooling. Everything from Newegg.com.

The first system I completed runs happily at 155 FSB, so I was getting excited.

Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4600
3com Nic
Sound blaster audigy w/firewire
512 MB OCZ pc2700 cas 2 RAM

The second system built for my girlfriend's parents, will not hit 133 FSB no matter what voltage I set. When you turn the computer on, it hangs on the ASUS screen.

Gainward Geforce 2 gts 32 mb
Linksys nic
Sound blaster audigy
256 MB Crucial pc2100

I tried swapping the RAM, but still no go. The Crucial RAM happily runs at 2.4 ghz on the first system.

I have not tried any other FSB settings yet because I "thought" that all 1.6a's would hit 2.1 without a problem so I jumped direct to 133 and didnt bother trying anything else.

Anybody have any ideas?

This thread is not a complaint, because I know I bought a 1.6 and it runs at that just fine, just wondering if anybody has any tricks up their sleeves.

TIA

I already tried disabling them, no luck. I tried all 3 memory settings and all voltages. :(

Switch cpu's , see if the problem cpu will run in the other system & vice versa.

This way you'll know if you have a 1.6a that just won't overclock.

I'm not going to go as far as switching processors. My system is running great and I dont want to screw anything up. Plus I ran out of Arctic Silver :)

well at least you dont have a 1.6A that does 2.13 at 1.45 volts but just not in your case because the fan is blocked in the particular case you choose.

(Superman CK) It was bought from Newegg and came in a branded 1.6a box so I can only assume.... Its definately not the old standard P4 because I also have a P4 1.7 Willy and the chips look different.

(Renob) 30 systems on 1 tube!!! Are you sure you dont have the 6 gram tube? They make two sizes. Or maybe I am using too much.

(HightechRedneck) I havent pulled anything out yet and probably wont bother, the people I made it for wont notice the difference between 1.6 or 2.1 :) I'm just messing around with it because I havent heard of anybody else that cant hit at least 2.1

Well, I think that's really entirely too little, 30 systems on one of the smaller tubes?

Here's what's suggested for one cpu:

Note: that's not taking into account that there's a lot more of a surface area that needs AS3 with the 1.6a's.

How about the power supply?

Do they both have the same power supply?

What PSU are you using?
