Yeah, I could see that happening with mods

It doesn't change how lame a stupid FWD torque-steer box is ;)

Who cares if it's mildly fast? It's still a daft FWD pos...

All you have to do is touch the Monaro with an aftermarket kit and it would tear massive, bleeding, gaping chunks off the the Neon (not that it doesn't already, stock vs a SRTTTTTTTXTX+ special ;)).

Which do you think the ladies prefer? ;) Grunty Aussie V8 power, or screaming 4 torque-steering Yankee crap? The styling on the Monaro leaves the cheap SRTXTXTXTS+ for dead...(dear God, I just googled and reminded myself exactly how ugly and plastic that thing is...)

EDIT2: I never knew I cared this much. Ignore me.

I've never seen anybody but middle age guys with mullets driving the grunty Aussie GTO. Are you saying that women prefer mullets?

Oh, and there is no styling on the Monaro. It is about as stylish as every other jellybean shaped car on the planet.

I'm not saying that the SRT-4 is an attractive car by any stretch but it is cheap and it is fast.

Hey! I'm only 39, and I haven't had a mullet since the '80s... :D

 My neighbor has one (GTO, not the mullet). It is black with red interior...god what an awful combo. He doesn't exactly have a mullet but he does have the scraggly rockstar long hair. He's a nice guy though and a Chargers fan.

We get it already.

Get what? Was I talking to you?

You seem to have this unhealthy hatred and twisted view of everything GM and even the owners (stereotype). They could make a car leaps and bounds better than everything you?ve ever seen and you'll still draw a negative opinion and continuously pass it off as fact. Get over the old sentiment already ya grump!

Unhealthy? How do you define that? I've driven the GTO, have you? I posted a detailed and honest review of the car here...have you? I haven't stated anything about the GTO in this thread that hasn't been pointed out by others...which is probably part of the reason sales have been so lackluster and why Pontiac stopped manufacturing it.

My comment on the mullet was a joke...which is why I put the  there after I posted it.

How is it that Pontiac stopped manufacturing it? You seem to rehash old tired outdated information on GM vehicles like it's your primary job. Put a Camry next to a GTO and you'll be the first to point out the flaws in the GTO and all the good in the Camry. In fact, put anything next to a GM vehicle and it's the same results. It's an endless repeating cycle. Why would anyone take you seriously anymore when the tired old cliches are expected? I know I don't.

Funny, I don't see the GTO listed as a model Pontiac sells for the 2008 model year.

Who would be dumb enough to compare a GTO to a Camry? Well, besides you of course. Hell, I'd take a GTO over a Camry any day. You may think you know something about me and what I like but you'd be wrong...again.

BTW-I know Pontiac doesn't manufacture the GTO (it is manufactured by Holden in Australia for Pontiac)...which is why I italicized that word in my post...guess that was lost on you too though.

1. The GTO was discontinued because they couldn't make it meet new safety standards. It would have cost too much.
2. Holden is basically GM in Australia. Why do you make such a big deal out of this? Car mfg do this stuff all the time, but when it comes to the GTO, this is a huge deal. Get over it. It's so annoying listening to it already. NO ONE CARES THAT IT'S AN AUSSIE CAR! STFU about it already.

Well the G8 is coming out as a sorta replacement and it's also a Holden car.

Edmunds pulled off a 0-60 in 5.3 and the 1/4 in 14.1.

Not too shabby.

Are you referring to the Commodore test? http://www.edmunds.com/insidel...sts/articleId=120615#3

The 0-60 time is in line, but 14.1 @ 99.1mph for a car with nearly 400hp? That's pathetic even for a non-lefty driver...

When they tested the Maloo they quote a 12 second time which is about what is expected from a car with such a power to weight ratio. I guess they just drove a bad example.

Fixed. Last time I checked the LS2 was 100% American. The car isn't but at least give us the heart. :p
THANK YOU. It's not a damn Aussie power plant for god's sake, not even an Aussie drivetrain. The only thing Aussie done to the drivetrain was to rotate the transmission some to fit the shifter for LHD and end up fudging the standard T-56 drain/fill holes.

Anyone heard anything more about GM flogging the SS-V VE Ute over in yankland?

IIRC Lutz mentioned it at one stage...

That would really give some of you in this thread the sh1ts ;)

Nope. And I couldn't possibly care less either.

Unlike most of you I don't really remember what everyone here drives or even what kind of cars they like...well, except for Dug, I know he likes those whacky looking Aussie cars.

Hey, I was interested enough in the GTO to at least test drive one. I respect the performance of the car and for the money it's a bargain for sure. So is the SRT-4. I like the looks of the Ford Mustang GT and the performance but the interior leaves a bit to be desired (I test drove one of those too). Hell, I've owned 2 Mustangs in the past, both GT's.

And despite the fact that some people don't like my comments I WILL continue to make them when I feel the need. There are things I don't like about a great many cars and I've voiced my opinion on them as well, including Japanese cars and especially the newer BMWs and certainly Korean cars. Nobody seems to mind when I comment on those though for some strange reason...

LOL all you guys sound like EVERY other thread bashing on the srt-4 about in the end it's still a neon. Well you got beat by a neon that cost less than you. The Neon SRT-4 was about speed on the cheap. It succeeded in every way. But good job on bashing other cars that beat you. You guys sound like real car people.

Your going to be impeached no more President of the Anti-SUV/American car Brigade.

It is a heavy car. Heavier than the GTO, with a less powerful power plant, and more fuel economy oriented gear ratios (at least in the automatic - manual forthcoming).

Seems right in there to me. The V8-powered Bimmers, Mercs and Dodge's (i.e. Charger RT) don't run much better. In fact, the G8 GT is pretty comparable to the Charger RT. Only you can actually mod these motors.

Baseline: 286 RWHP
After tune, CAI and catback exhaust: 340 RWHP
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/sh...&p=833054&postcount=89

340 is about where stock LS2 dyno's, maybe a little lower. Imagine what headers and a cam could do for this car.

EDIT
NVM, headers and a cam = 410 RWHP

Hey now. I happen to be the guy who got beat, and I did NOT bash on the guy nor the car that did it. I respect the fact that the other guy put enough money into his car to do it, and if I put an equal amount of cash into mine, I would have made him look pretty silly, too.

No matter what you're driving, there's always a faster car out there.

Of course. Put 3k into a 30k car or put 3k into a 5k car but in the end you spent more and that's what it's about.

Big deal. You can make anything fast. And at the end of the day, the kid is still driving a Neon and you're not.
