Yep, some kid in a turbocharged Neon was able to get a decisive jump on me on the freeway. It did sound like it had some work done to it, as I heard what I think was a pop off valve. Oh well, props to him, I guess.

Hmm... Time to consider engine mods? :p

Those skittles can be fast. Can't hook worth a damn from a dig, given FWD and all, but from a roll they can be deadl.

Why you could give a monkeys about some turdbag in a domestic FWD is beyond me ;)

Nothing like opening that big Aussie NA 8 up, however...;)

there were many factory kits for the Neon, it was no slouch off the showroom floor either. The SRT models could race a top end 350z and depending on drivers beat them.

I find that easy to believe.

A stock SRT4 will be neck and neck with an STI from a 30mph roll, and an STI just barely edges out a GTO in the 1/4.

So with some mods........

It doesn't change how lame a stupid FWD torque-steer box is ;)

Who cares if it's mildly fast? It's still a daft FWD pos...

All you have to do is touch the Monaro with an aftermarket kit and it would tear massive, bleeding, gaping chunks off the the Neon (not that it doesn't already, stock vs a SRTTTTTTTXTX+ special ;)).

Which do you think the ladies prefer? ;) Grunty Aussie V8 power, or screaming 4 torque-steering Yankee crap? The styling on the Monaro leaves the cheap SRTXTXTXTS+ for dead...(dear God, I just googled and reminded myself exactly how ugly and plastic that thing is...)

EDIT2: I never knew I cared this much. Ignore me.

At the end of the day, when it's all said and done, he's left with a fast Neon and you're left with an slow ugly fake GTO. He wins twice.

I honestly can't believe than anyone would take the plastic, bent, riced looking Neon over the classic Monaro styling (although I understand you messed up the grille).

Add the little four-banger FWD against a gorgeous NA V8 RWD, and I'm gobsmacked...

The SRT-4 was quick right out of the box, stage II mods for $600 ish, from the factory add alot of hp, stage III with a newer turbo, and intercooler would definately make a hot little rolling coffin. I could definately see this, especially if he was rolling, you'd need to start from a standing stop to have much of a chance against a modded SRT-4.

Fixed. Last time I checked the LS2 was 100% American. The car isn't but at least give us the heart. :p

OP, throw some headers and a new cam in there and you got yourself a clean 60whp+

But at the end of the day it is still a NEON, no matter how fast it is.

I think they're both in poor taste. Give me a curvy black mazda mx-3 or rx-7.

SEXY. AS. HELL.

I'll never race a Neon from a roll. I have heard of too many that learned that lesson.

I guess you're one of those people that won't/can't appreciate a car no matter how fast it moves or how well it stops and turns.

I've already got JBA shorty headers and a Corsa sport exhaust (have to keep it California smog-legal), but I could do a ported intake manifold, cylinder heads, and *maybe* a cam. The question is whether I really care to shift my financial priorities to making my car go faster... :)

The Neon was ugly, in my opinion, and sounded obnoxious (also in my opinion).

I've never seen anybody but middle age guys with mullets driving the grunty Aussie GTO. Are you saying that women prefer mullets?

Oh, and there is no styling on the Monaro. It is about as stylish as every other jellybean shaped car on the planet.

I'm not saying that the SRT-4 is an attractive car by any stretch but it is cheap and it is fast.

IMO, the GTO/Monaro is the most boring muscle car I've seen. don't get me wrong - it's a great car. the exterior simply has nothing really exciting going for it.

the mustang, charger/300 (SRT versions are even better, granted they are more $$) all have some aggressive styling going for them. GTO - not really.

You seem to have this unhealthy hatred and twisted view of everything GM and even the owners (stereotype). They could make a car leaps and bounds better than everything you?ve ever seen and you'll still draw a negative opinion and continuously pass it off as fact. Get over the old sentiment already ya grump!
