I just upgraded from the mx700 to the mx1000 and i love it!!. Its alot lighter since the batter is and intergrated lithium ion its alot more balanced. it has bigger feet pads so it glides alot smooth. and yes its alot more precise. Dont get mre wrong. the mx700 is a great mouse. but the mx1000 spanks it. it just feels 50x better. It was worth the extra cash!

Unfortunately my mx900 is part of a bluetooth set with a keyboard. So I can't really get the MX900 without getting a new keyboard. Will there be a new bluetooth set coming out w/ the mx1000?

MX700 to MX900 to MX1000 (hopefully.) I'd still never buy any of their speakers though. :p

Uhh...I believe the discussion changed when Schadenfroh asked " will there be a corded version of the MX1000? ". It never had to do with "Dump your MX510 and get a MX1000." .

I`m 99% sure there will be a corded version, look at the MX700 ,you had the MX500 and then the later 510 model,it won`t be hard for Logitech to make a corded version,it`s more of a matter when it`ll be released.

I would expect the MX1000 model to be better then the MX510,however we`ll have to wait for reviews to confirm this.

I'm a "pro" Q3 player and I use the combination of MX510 and Allsop Raindrop pad. It's fantastic. Perfect compromise of speed, accuracy and control. If someone offered me a combo of the most expensive mouse and pad (e.g. Icemat II + MX1000) for free, I would refuse and keep my MX510 and Raindrop... or accept the offer and earn some money by selling both items :)

BTW, 5.8 Mps and 800 cpi - MX1000 offers exactly the same specs as MX510. No relevant improvements.

Do you use teflon tape on your mouse feet.....just curious.

Do people here prefer to be tethered with a cord???!

The MX1000 is just as good as a corded mouse. It works better than any other mouse I've used included any of the other MX series mice.

The battery seems to be holding up well too. Two days of fairly hard use and three bars!

The resolution/dpi may be the same as the 510 but what you must remember is this rate is extremely constant with use across many irregular surfaces. The standard LED powered sensor can easily have its data output interrupted causing tracking irregularities and skipping. The laser sensor can also keep up with faster sudden movements gamers can induce with flicking, etc.

Cheers!

I don't wander around the room while using the computer, so a cordless mouse (and keyboard for that matter) is completely useless to me. The charging cradle thing is just one more thing I don't need sitting on my desk, or under my desk, or on a shelf, or where ever. That would be in the way more so than the cords that I'm not aware exist while using the computer.

im telling you guys. the mx1000 is the ultimate gameing mouse. why be restricted with cords when you can get the performance and comfort with a wireless one. Ill never go back to corded ever!

Cordless or corded isn't a big deal to me. My mouse sits a good 2" in front of my tower and an inch to the right of my keyboard. I've used several MS and logitech mice, both corded and cordless, and never had a preference, it just doesn't matter for me.

The one major concern I have is the mapability of the buttons on the MX1000. I changed nearly every key on the MX500 series to my liking, and noticed that the MX1000 changed the left side buttons. I map the left side (thumb) buttons to show/hide desktop (front) and double click (back) but if I'm not mistaken, the MX1000 has 3 buttons there, and I guess removed one of the top ones? I use the wheel in front of the scroll wheel for 'backspace' (back in a browser, and in most programs) rather than using the side ones for back/forward.

I'm going to get a new mouse fairly soon for my second comp, so I could move my MX500 to it, and add the MX1000 to my main comp, or save some money and go either MX500 or 510 on either comp. I like the look and love the 4-way scroll of the wheel on the MX1000, but I'm still not sure.

I bought the MX1000 last night, and I do not like the way the thumb area is contoured or the way it fits my hand. Maybe if I gave it a little more time to "settle in" I might change my mind, but since I'm a FPS enthusiast it hinders my game. I also cannot tell any difference at all in UT2K4 using the MX1000 compared to my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a, so I'm going to return it and stick with old faithful.

Hmmm, I may finally get a cordless mouse (MX1000). Any drawbacks to it? A review says it's large. Is it as large as the original Intellimouse Explorer? That thing was way too big. My smaller Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is fine. I'm not sure I like the MX1000's thumb buttons either. I just need to go try the thing.
I've been wanting the Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite keyboard though. I hate how you have to buy the combo's. That'd leave me with an unused mouse, which is half the cost. Plus using drivers from two different mfg's.

because i dont want to have to recharge it, ever. i simply do not want to go thru the trouble of putting it in a docking station, ever. the corded version will also be lighter because it will lack a lithium cell. i have no need for wireless. Plus, i have a wired keyboard, so it is kinda pointless to have one wireless and not the other. i doubt there will be a wireless version of the windowkeyless IBM model M anytime soon......

I checked the MX1000 out at CUSA and it seems like a great mouse. It fit my hand very well. I have an MX510 now, so it will probably be a while before I get the MX1000.

I use Steelpad4d and haven't any problem yet. I like it's smooth surface(especially with Icemat padsurfers on my MX510's mouse feet). You should try this combination. It's great!

My once favourite Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 died on me a few days ago .. well, rather the mouse-wheel refused to work properly when scrolled upwards, so I had to get a new mouse. I hate the newer Intellimouses (4.0) so decided to go for the MX 1000 (it looks so damn nice) .. I've been using it for a few days now in most FPS games and have to say that its not all its made up to be.. infact, I longed for my Intellimouse 3.0 back; .. well, I took the thing back to the store and exchanged it for the cheaper MX 510 that had 'great' reviews.. and I can't say enough about how good I'm finding this mouse.. its as good (alright, its better) than the Intelli3.0.. lovely!

Whatever you do, consider the MX510 above the MX1000 if your a hardcore gamer; .. lits lighter and in my view it performs better.. there were times (in fast movement) when the MX1000 just seemed to breakd own in important situations.. It's also a big ah heck, ..

If you like the 3.0 so much you can order the "Pro Package" from Steelpad(3.0 and Steelpad S&S) I've heard that S&S is a very nice pad! So you'll get a good mouse and a good surface!

Replied elsewhere but here it goes again:

This is a standard test that the Chinese review sites use to check if the mouse can be used by low sens swipers/gamers:

1. Open Windows Control Panel, Mouse, set your Pointer Speed all the way down to the lowest it'll go.
2. Open a graphics program, set it to "paint" (ie create a line whereever the mouse goes)
3. Swipe the mouse while drawing the line very quickly left and right.

The MX510 will produce a clean left/right series of zig zags. The MX1000 will jump all over the place. None of the pro teams will use the MX1000 so it's strictly amateur hour. If you don't believe me try it out yourself.

PS: You might also want to consider the Razer Diamondback, I own all three and it's really only a choice between the 510 and Diamondback.

will there be a corded version of the MX1000?

Schadenfroh,I read Logitech are working on a laser corded version of the MX1000,which`s not a surprise ;).

3. Swipe the mouse while drawing the line very quickly left and right.

I just tried the test,no lag believe it or not, even tried it with both sensitivity on lowest setting and "no acceleration" as well.

Kind of pointless if you ask me,since I`ve it set on medium for general use and gaming, you do need some speed(settings wise) with ANY MOUSE otherwise you`ll get fragged in gaming ,oh here`s a real ENGLISH review which compares it to a MX510.

Shrug, if it works for you, great. Most professional gamers won't touch it, especially CS players that usually play with a very low sensitivity. Lurking around CPL and WCG will enlighten you.
