9000 pro. Hands down, should kick that mx440, which is basically a gf2 gts all over the place.

I have found by just messing around with these two cards is that the mx440 8x runs some things better then the rad 9000 pro and then the 9000 pro runs some games better then the mx440, then you got ati that has much better 2d... I will say if you got cash get the rad 9000pro built by ATI but because the mx440 can be had for cheap and in some cased i've seen them much cheaper "40 bucks less" then the ATI if you don't have games that needs a lot of power get the mx... all in all it's a good card.

9000Pro.
The only aspect in which the 440MX is equable to or superior to the 900Pro is pure gaming performance, and even there it's not conclusively superior. pretty much anything else and the 9000Pro is better.

I wouldnt agree with that, I have used in my main system a radeon 9500 and 440mx pci whilst my ti4200 is away for repair. The 2d on both is the same, but you try using a radeon 9500 for autocad it blows, the mx440 outperforms it easily.

My vote goes with the Radeon 9000 Pro, there will always be games that the MX440 will outperform it and vice versa but on the whole the Radeon 9000 Pro is a better video card and ATI seem to be finally writing some decent drivers.

One thing which hasn't been mentioned is the weak hardware t&l of the Radeon 9000 which would be a downside for people with slower systems.

2D quality really depends on what brand of video card you buy rather than on the chipset. I've recently used a Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro and it's 2D quality IMO was inferior to my old Gainward MX440.

The main DX8 feature the games are using is vertex shaders which can be emulated using software anyway, how many games require pixel shaders to run because I can't think of any?

if you ask me they are both great cards in there own. So what really comes down too is the cost the dude wants to put into the video cards.

"i had option to pick either one of them for 30 US$ which would you guys pick ???"

The only thing I can say here is- If the ATI card is made by ATI and is same cost of the MX card get the ATI hands down! However if it's not made by ATI and it's off brand I prob look into that MX card.

I agree with what your saying fully, I've tried out some of the "powered by ATI" video cards and they are generally rubbish.
