I'm going to buy a gaming mouse...

should I go for a refurbished MX700 with no warranty, or the MX 510 from newegg?

both come up to around $30, so I'm mainly deciding on the functionality and ease to game with....

so which one should I get?

I'd go for the MX510 since it will have a warranty and isn't cordless. I have one of the MX510's at home on my rig (tower in my sig) and it has no difficulty with gaming... It would really suck (for you) if you were in the middle of a game and the batteries in the cordless started to konk out...

I own both and have used both for gaming. I think I like the MX700 better because there's no annoying cord and there is no lag at all. I've been trying to get used to the MX510, it's ok but nothing special.

I've managed the cords for the keyboard and mouse for my rig. Since the computer sits under the desk (it's an open design computer desk) there's plent of room around it for this. I've zip tied the cords together and used one of the cable holders that use double face tape to stick to a surface to hold it under the desktop. I leave just enough slack between the cable holder and the pull-out drawer for the keyboard and mouse to be used. This has made things so much better than before. Before, the cords would go all over the place making it more difficult to use the mouse. Now, with the managing of the cords, the mouse cord doesn't get caught on anything. Since the cable holder came with my case, and I didn't use it in there, it didn't cost me a cent to do this. I've had a ton of zip ties for a while, so that was nothing extra. I think the total breakdown for the zip ties might come to 2 cents there... Cost to benefit ratio is through the roof (for the benefit side).

I have an MX700. I found it to bulky and charging a mouse as a needless extra step. It's a very good mouse; just not for me. I opted for the MX 310 and It's the best mouse I have ever owned.

go with mx700, it is the wireless version of the mx510. Just do not forget to put it back on the re-charging stand.

a) the mx700 has a red led that'll start blinking about 30 minutes before the batteries die (depending on the battery)

b) it uses double A batteries, so they're easily replacable. i have two sets of rechargables and never have troubles (granted, i've tried pushing the blinking led and have had batteries die on me in games, but completely user error)

go with mx700.

"Depending on the battery".. I replaced mine, and it gos hours on blinking red light.

I think the issue is more a matter of personal preference. (Get what you want).

No, the MX510 will perform better than the MX700. I believe that the MX700 is a wireless version of the MX500. Saying that, the MX700 is a very good wireless mouse, though a tad heavy due to batteries. The MX510 will be more precise though. However, if you wanted to spend $60, the wireless MX1000 is based on the MX510. Awesome mouse!

Anyway, get the MX510 :D

Buy the MX510,two reasons why ,first it`s lighter so your response in gaming movement wise will be quicker,second it has a superior optical MX sensor so bette for gaming,I could meantion a third like no battery drainage to worry about ;).

The MX510 is lighter, looks better, and easier to deal with since there aren't batteries. The only downside is the cord (maybe not since some people say cordless mouse lag), but isn't a problem for me since I have a func surface with cord clip.
One thing that I would strongly recommend is the warrantee. I recently had a high pitched whine start coming from my MX510. I called Logitech and told them about the problem, they said they would send a replacement. 3 days later, I got a brand new MX510 via DHL and I even got to keep my slightly defective MX510.

ya, if you say so. too bad they use the exact same optical engine. both are 800dpi sensor. try checking your opion before you start passing it as fact.

mx510 vs. mx700 can only be decided by price, preferences (cord/cordless, light/heavy weight) and perceptions (its wireless so it can't be as good as wired blah blah blah).

Bojangles139,I go by facts.

We've reviewed several Logitech mice in the past at FastLaneHW-- the MX700, MX900, and MX310. Today we're going to review yet another great Logitech mouse, called the MX510. It's basically an improved version of the MX500, but the main feature with this mouse is the 5.8 megapixel sensor, which is about 25% more accurate than even the $100 MX900!

Plenty of reviews on the web that confirm this.

MX700 Specs,
* Image Processing: 4.7 megapixels/sec
* Resolution: 800 dpi
* Acceleration: 10g
* Speed: 1 metre/sec

MX510 specs,
* Image Processing: 5.8 megapixels/sec
* Resolution: 800 dpi
* Acceleration: 15g
* Speed: 1 metre/sec

Taken from Logitech`s website.

IMHO MX510 is much better... the weight, the accu problem etc.
Can't stand cordless mice for gaming! I use MX510 and the Steelpad QcK

From very ocassional gamer:

Used MX700 for a week, bulky (not really heavier), larger hand needed; back it it's box (anybody want$ it?)

Use a Mouseman double optical, with the cord tamed also; not the latest but works for me! I can see going with the MX510.

what about the mx310? it's a great mouse with good accuracy. I play CS at the CAL level and its great. It's also cheap enough for the casual gamer. Get the mx310 and spend the cash you saved on something else.

The MX310 is the lefty's MX500, but that's all it's really good for. It's better to get a MX500 since you can get it for almost the same price online as the MX310. The MX500 has more buttons and more ergonomical.

I hate the new x10 models. I have small hands and the MX300 works well for me. The newer 310 etc x10 are too big for me. I have no problem playing fps on my MX300.

for what its worth... i have the 510 and I really like the to two buttons on the side. You can click them to either go forward or backward in your browser...you can set them to do just about anything you want really. Well worth the money. My, am I getting lazy?

p.s. does well in games also. It is wide and makes for a big fit in the palm of your hand but you get accustomed to it rather easily.
