I think it's all pretty sad. Rob a truck just for some games. Almost as bad as standing in line to buy the latest console just to come out of the store and break it in front of everyone else who would have loved to buy it.

Both situations are pretty disgusting from today's society.

Not to be a wet blanket and spoil all the humor, but as they say "it's all about the money" $550,000 is a lot of it. It is kind of ironic though that they stole this game with a plan that could have come right out of the game itself.

That is all well and good, but who will buy a game at more than storefront prices if it releases in a few hours? I think these boys are a week too late to make any good coin off this. Not that criminals being intelligent is something to bank on.

Just shows how pathetic MW3 players are lol. Worse than WoW

You think they robbed them just to get the games only to have them for themselves?

This isn't a "I must have this game" oriented smash and grab, this was a smash and grab. The product of choice to grab (for street/underground resale) just happened to be a game in this case.

I'm not defending MW players or the game, I just find it comical (and moronic) that one could twist this instance of robbery into something motivated by geeky desires and/or turn this into a bashing of a certain category of gamer.
That's what's pathetic in this instance.

This is motivated by money, like most robberies/smash and grabs. It's destined to be a hot item, and they also got hold of copies before release...btw, which means they can easily sell some copies for a higher price to the "pathetic" gamers who can't wait and also generally sell most copies for barely any discount at all since it's before release. After release, a smaller discount (which they really wouldn't care about, small loss of true potential profit but still a lot of "free money") will also easily sell.
That is, if the distributor isn't able to get EA to prevent those copies from playing online. I know they've got some stupid anti-used-copy measure that prevents multiplayer access if bought at resale... so they could activate it here which means this stash of product isn't worth nearly as much as it could have been.

Why MW3? Because like Madden was years ago people mob stores for it. That's why it's pathetic. People are robbed daily and it doesn't make the news...

This did...

This did...

People are robbed for small quantities of items.
Robbing a vehicle stocked with thousands of copies of an item that will easily sell on the street for greater than $40/each is completely of a different league.

People were motivated to do this not because they were too damn excited and got into a mob mentality; rather, they were motivated because they knew a massive number of people will be motivated to buy it.

This is like a smash and grab of a large number of iPads or iPods or recently-launched consoles or anything that has a high demand and potentially a limited initial supply.
And couple that with the fact that they accomplished this prior to the official product launch, and they have the potential to make massive cash.

This isn't mob mentality, this isn't "OMG I have to have this YESTERDAY!!!"
this is a carefully-orchestrated criminal act motivated by the desire to make quick sums of cash.

This happens all the time, but it doesn't always happen to be a massively hyped entertainment product. Sometimes its other things that still have a good demand and a potential underground resale market.

This got attention because of the massive hype and the event occurring prior to retail availability.

If MW3 was actually any good I'd care TBH. In a way I'm glad Activision got ripped off I hate them.

Now don't take that the wrong way, it is not that I like seeing this type of thing, but in the case of Activision they've been too greedy for their own good.

Its an easy target. They probably wouldnt get that much robbing a bank, as you'll get caught going for the vault. They always get caught going for the vault. Remember not too long ago asian gangs were robbing trucks carrying cpus. I would personally think pirating the game would involve less risk, but I'm not a criminal, so maybe they have their reasons.

just more BF fanboys pissed off that people want CoD more than their precious game or maybe they don't have anything better to do because they can't play BF3 because it keeps crashing or disconnecting them from servers.

Hey! I like BF3 (and yes, it's buggy), and I will not be buying MW3. I'm done with the COD series I reckon.

But yeah, that level of fanboyism is annoying. BF3 gameplay wise is so much better but I don't go crazy knocking the other things (considering I did enjoy them and probably could still enjoy them, just looking for more and BF3 has that).

I don't know what's worse: The fact that the guy stuck him up for the game, or that the victim risked his life, fighting back for it.
I just don't get it. This is not fanboism. This is the real deal, the robber has money to buy the game, but decided to rob for one. The defender not only fought for it, but he said "fcuk you" right at gun point! Seriously, both of them have balls, I mean seriously. Grabbing the gun's barrel as the gunner cocks his gun is something that we see in movies. If I am the victim I will be like
"Take whatever you like just relax your fingers. Want the car keys?"
