Congratulations Smokeball MVC for 2002!! I would very much like to see a development like you have proposed come into effect and will be anticipating such a great program when it is unveiled. :)

Thanks to all those who participate in all the TeAm AnandTech teams and I am looking forward to another great year ahead! :D

Thanks also to those who voted for me into the HVC category. I am very honored to be counted amoung all these great TeAm mates and to have been able to contribute as I have been able. It has been a great pleasure to be a member of TeAm D20L and TeAm AnandTech!!

Thanks to all!!

I'm anxious to see the "BOINC client". Distributed computing started with SETI@Home and now we have a bunch of projects available today but they are all split and require a little "know how" to get going. Maybe BOINC will be the next big step in DC? I sure hope so. It would be great to have a single client with a simple way of choosing where to devote your CPU power to your desired project. Maybe someday a DC client will be built into our operating system of choice? There's a lot of CPU power out there going to waste and if it could be put to good use who knows what project or task could be tackled?

I hope BOINC gets the support of the DC community! I know I'll be there. :)

I'm sure "Robor" meant "RC5@Home". :p :D

LOL

:)

I remember having a similar statement in the welcome thread for quite a while until my error was pointed out to me. :p ;)

I just did a search and found this Interesting Article.

The first sentence in the above linked article is an eye catcher!

As a concept Distributed Computing is hardly a new thing. In fact, kind of distributed computing has been practiced for at least a hundred years, albeit computations were made by hand and later complex mechanical devices because computers hadn't been invented yet.

Okay, okay, so RC5 was first. Minor oversight there. ;) Still, I don't think it was ever nearly as big as SETI@Home. Correct me if I'm wrong (again  ) but didn't SETI have more overall and active users? Maybe I should've said "DC became more popular with SETI"? I know I never heard of DC until the SETI project.

maybe became more popular, yeah. But without distributed.net the whole thing wouldn't exist as it exists now... and distributed.net was and still is quite big.

I have been sortof lurking while running around from machine to machine trying to keep them all going (as it is, only 12 out of about 14 are going...;))...

I have to say that every single person on that list has worked tirelessly for the TeAM and deserves my kudos!!! Congratulations to you and to everyone who contributes to the TeAm in whatever way they can. It is a pleasure to be here and I don't think anyone could have really predicted how much DC would expand and how we could have handled so many projects run under the name of Anandtech. :D I think TA's showing in all of these projects is a testament to the dedicated group of crackers, crunchers, folders, genomers, BOINCers, PRIMEers, and others who spend their time and $$$ for TA glory!

Thanks for the morale-boosting thread ViRGE and thanks also to all of your efforts over the years here for the TeAm. :)
