😱 how long before japan gets man-bunnies?

I, for one, welcome our mutant rabbit overlords. I’d like to remind them that as a trusted interweb poster, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their massive carrot fields.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't tell the "whole story."

The rabbit wasn't born sans ears because of nuclear radiation...it was born without ears in response to horrible japanese pop music...

There are animals with birth defects all the time. Unless you're tracking the incidence of things like this relative to other populations of the same animals in other areas you can't draw any conclusions.

Also, that comment about it showing indications of albinism is probably moot. It's a domesticated rabbit, many domesticated rabbits were bred to express albinism. However, it's a recessive trait so its parents may not express it but still are able to have albino offspring. I'd bet that its parents are carriers for the recessive albino genes.

This is pretty poor reporting. It's just trying to get people's attention by playing on their fears without actually having any real information to base their story on.

Hush up with your reason and logic and just FEAR RADIATION OMG!!!

Uhh, mutants are born all the time. How can they possibly link it to Fukushima without a before and after survey of the entire population?

no where in the article does it say it was caused by radiation

They never say that radiation was the cause, but the whole point of the article is to suggest that the radiation caused it. Check out the subtitle.

An earless rabbit, also possibly albino, has triggered new fears about the effects of radiation

While they never say anything that is blatantly incorrect they present the information in such a way to make the reader think that there's a direct link between the nuclear disaster and this bunny. That's why I said that this is poor reporting. No real conclusive information, just fear mongering to get more readers.

eh, how often to these kind of odd mutations occur? especially among rabbits, who pump out like, 3-5 generations in one year? lol stupid fucking media.

and lol at albinism in rabbit as "OMG fear of radiation!".

have any of these idiots been anywhere near the world of research?

😀

have they even encountered a domestic mouse or rat...or, for fucks sake, a rabbit?

I don't think this is the first rabbit born with a defect such as this. I think this is a little over played at this point.

Meh, probably just overgrooming by the mommy rabbit. It's not that uncommon.

They can have up to about 12 litters per year, they have a gestation of roughly 30days and can get pregnant again as soon as they birth the previous litter. But they don't reach sexual maturity until about 6 months so you'd be lucky to get 2 generations a year.

I take it that it's not a beneficial mutation seeing as how a lack of ears might make it hard to, oh, not get eaten?

well, it's still insane. 😀

If the animal's environment was right, it could be. As long as the hearing abilities did not rely on the ears to be loud and/or directional enough, it could specifically be an advantage because a predator could not grab them when the rabbit is in flight. It's the same reason people crop their fighting dogs' ears.
