Mustard

I have probably 8 to 10 different mustards in the fridge right now. This has been my favorite for at least 20 or 25 years. Beaver Brand Sweet Hot Mustard. My first go-to for sandwiches, but also with cheese and crackers, sausages and in some vinaigrettes.

And for that most ubiquitous and boring mustard in the cupboard - yellow - I recently discovered that Heinz is surprisingly better than the old standard French's. Maybe less bitter or less sour. Yellow mustard is still the only thing for pretzels, and (for me) it's essential on a classic burger or hot dog.

Growing up we always had two mustards in the fridge: Gulden's Spicy Brown and French's yellow. I don't think I ever even saw another brand of mustard until I was 18 and left home.

We've started to use Heinz ourself lately as a standard over French's, I still usually have a few others around like Chinese Hot Mustard and a good Horseradish Mustard.

The local Publix Brown mustard here seems even better than Guldens to me, I used to always have some Guldens around and switched there also.

I love all sorts of mustards, but they go best on those salty processed meats that I really shouldn't eat too much of.

How about on a pork chop? A spicy horseradish mustard is ideal, and is easy to make yourself from a dijon or variety of brown mustard.

Or on a sandwich made from baked turkey or chicken breast (not the stuff from the deli)?

I have so many hot sauces around I just mix something with mustard if I want something like Jalapeno I guess.

That and a big jar of Japs 🙂

LOL @ the size of that picture. 😀

I have tried all sorts of them and can't recall a mustard that I didn't like.

I'm pretty happy with the simple yellow kind though so I just stick with it.

I've tried a mayo/mustard mix I didn't care for, why I do not bother with things like that these days.

Funny, i think my fridge is just a condiment holder. its full of mustard, hot sauces, salad dressings, Ketchup's,,, if we have a lot of left overs its a struggle to find room and a constant reminder why ill NEVER EVER buy a side by side fridge again.

That doesn't sound good. I would very rarely consider buying pretty much anything that is a mix or blend. Silliness like peanut butter and jelly or mayo and mustard in the same jar.

I have control issues that make it so only I can determine the correct ratios of such substances.

Every time I have to offend the gods by cramming a frozen pizza on edge into the narrow freezer of a side by side I question how I have not yet been struck down in anger.

yellow for things.....we have some but i think its only because we got a condiment pack at costco. spicy brown whole grain for sausages and sandwiches, dejon for sandwiches.

I just picked up some of the Trader Joe's Dijon Mustard. I've never had it, so I'll post some results after I binge on it this weekend 😀 Anyone use this regularly?
