I don't get the value proposition here. Wouldn't it be better just to buy a base mustang and put $100k into it? It would be even more rare and probably more capable since it didn't waste expense with stupid stuff like F22 parts.

There are a lot of things going on here. Based off your question here is a general list of answer based opinions:

1.) You would get very little of the money you put into that modded car back if you ever decided to part with it.
2.) This car has much much more than $100k in physical upgrades over a base level Mustang. Just you upgrading the engine and the physical brakes to get close to what this car has would set you back $50,000.
3.) There are many many man hours in developing a car like this from the aero, to cooling for the engine/brakes/tires/transmission, to the suspension setup, to the electronics, etc. If you or a team of people weren't doing this for free then you'd end up losing money vs just buying the car. This doesn't even include things like the full carbon bodywork...you're well past the retail cost of the car now.
4.) This car is street legal and usable on public roads and the car you eventually modded probably wouldn't be. Because it would save a lot of man hours to just make it track only.
5.) People who buy these cars very very rarely drive them on track. It will just be an investment or show piece for most owners.
6.) Ford obviously wanted to show people that they could make a car that's *nearly* as good as a the GT3RS. Which is generally considered the best factory built street legal track car you can buy. No other car comes close to the combination of data points that car offers. Ford is trying to say, we can do this too.

The general take away is that there is thousands of man hours and millions and millions of dollars into developing a car like this. Someone just putting money through aftermarket parts into a car isn't going to overcome this.

Here is a great video on the GT3RS. Just think while watching there is just as much engineering and effort put into that Mustang.

Ford always manages to make the Mustang disappointment in automobile form. Every iteration gets close to being kind of cool but then Ford's inherent cheapness wins the day. It's like opening your Christmas present and finding a set of Lego knockoffs from the dollar store. Nothing quite fits, nothing matches expectations, then sad desperation hollows out your soul.

While I will never own one, I absolutely love it. Far cry from my '68 Mustang, that's for sure. And the fact that Ford has put this much R&D into breaking records and being first. I have watched several videos about it, cant wait for an actual test drive. There is so much going on, while it is not a "value" comparing it to similarly priced vehicles. The rear suspension, the side air ducts, and the one from the trunk are all designed to help it be the fastest car on the track. I think it will hold its own. Still its a Ford, and others are not.

I don't think there is a better automotive sound then a forced induction V-8 going into high throttle after exiting a curve. Right around the 2:17 mark in the video you can hear it perfectly.

I still don't like the headlights though. They remind me to much of the Mach-E.

I honestly don't get why they made this when they have the GT right there and its been a disappointment because it lacked what Ford put into this Mustang. They should've put this engine and the rest of the development into an updated GT. It'd look a lot better and it would've been what people wanted from that car. They also could've done a Bugatti and made 50 different one off versions of it for different targets, in fact based on how many of the 2005 era Ford GT are used for standing mile, they likely could've blown Bugatti away with one of them. Now that would have been something. And they probably could've offered Nurburgring lap times and whatever else this car is targeting, and it would make at least more sense based on the typical demographic of the buyer of GT vs Mustang.

Its got too many things that won't be allowed on a race car, but is too compromised as a road car to be worth all that stuff. And its not cool enough looking to be bought for its looks. The only place you can experience the performance it offers is a race track, so just buy a race car instead, and then have a more livable street legal Mustang that would look cooler for going home in.

There isn't one, well other than for rich people that will just hold onto it as a collectible and possibly for Ford if making such a vehicle provides marketing/advertising/branding benefits that exceeds the cost of development. Yes, you would, especially since you would customize it how you want. The main difference is one comes with a factory warranty and the other comes either with you having to be on the hook for any issues, or finding a good shop that stands behind their stuff and/or offers a warranty, or you finding a sucker if you end up moving on from it.

Certainly, and stuff like that either is gonna give you an erection or make you go "who f'n cares, smartphones are made of titanium now" and then realize you probably already paid for those parts in your tax dollars that got lit up with a match by congress and defense contractors while they sipped brandy laughing about how this way the American public will have to pony up for a new top fighter after they canned the F-22 cause the F-35 would do most of what it would be used for and well, you know how that turned out.

I guess I never considered them becoming DARE vehicles. The Mach-E makes little sense as an off the shelf police vehicle. Maybe for detectives or meter maids....maybe but definitely not for your everyday patrol officer.

City cops, why not? You got enough range for a day of driving. Rural would be a different story.

The Mach-Es design language isn't really geared toward a police patrol vehicle. The raked rear roof line is one example. It can be difficult for people not in hand cuffs to enter and exit let alone ones in hand cuffs who might me under the influence or are unruly about being arrested.

The front driver entry and exit isn't much better. The Mach-E sits really low even for a CUV and has a rather deep and wide door sill. I'm not decked out in full gear and constantly find myself dragging my feet over the sill.

The push button for the doors is another example. The Mach-E doesn't use traditional door handles like say the Ford Explorer does. They don't open as quickly and can be....finicky.

Those are just a few examples specifically about the Mach-E but we can go into EVs as a whole as well.

My small town of 16K people has 3 units on patrol 24/7. To the best of my knowledge they have around 5-6 patrol vehicles. These vehicles are in constant use from one shift to the next so refueling quickly is important.

The best the Mach-E can do on a 350KW L3 charger when refueling is 20% to 80% in 40 minutes. After 80% the rate drops off significantly and it takes forever. Even newer EVs can take more than 20 minutes to go from 20% to 80% and then there rate drops.

Not every municipality can afford to install one or more L3 chargers. They are very expensive. L2 chargers would not be fast enough.

Constant L3 charging is very detrimental to the batteries. Not just on the Mach-E but EVs in general. All manufactures including Tesla recommend not to L3 charge all the time.

Anyway, these are just a few examples on why the Mach-E or any EV would not make a good patrol vehicle.

No they would not for all the reasons I outlined above and more. You're just being stubborn.

I didn't even bring up the safety aspect. Every fucking time an EV gets in a crash or starts on fire it makes national news and the internet rages about it. Now lets start putting them into service were there is the potential for high speed pursuits and other situations that 99% of vehicles on the road do not encounter.
