Mustang GT vs. M3: Mustang "Better Balanced, Better Torque, Faster through turns"

I don't agree but for the sake of the performance comparison it really doesn't matter.

I agree that Mustang GT and M3 are catering to different buyers but for performance comparison, the GT looks great!

You can't honestly believe performance is the only category for buyers?

They're in totally different categories in price and in terms of the buyer. It's just how it is. If someone has the money for an M3, they're not going to be looking at a Mustang. There was a comparo that was done with an M3/comp package and an SRT-4 ACR and the ACR was only 0.1 slower around the track but of course no one looking at an M3 would even look at an SRT-4. It's just how it is.

Actually, I am looking at both cars and I have the money.

Again, for the purpose of THIS comparison test though, the other factors don't matter because it's a performance comparison test. I'm not sure why you can't wrap your head around that.

I think BMW needs to start pulling itself together. There should be no reason that the M3 is not doing CTS V numbers in power. Especially when the mustang has almost caught up to it.

I heard from a friend that Top Gear BBC tore into the M1 about how big of a piece of crap it was. I know that the m1 has nothing to do with the performance of the m3 but it somewhat shows that BMW is not going for all out performance in its racing vehicles.

I dont think the SRT-4 is in the same category as a m3 from the typical buyers perspective but I do think the mustang is. If I had an M3 off the lot right now and seen that a FORD mustang could keep up with me all day long, I would be furious. For the money I would have sprung for a top notch cobra. You can arguably say the cobra would be more collectible.

The m-3 might suffer like the audi R-8 when people starting figuring out it was all hype and no speed. I will never forget the car and driver video that showed the mercedes station wagon beating the r8. I know it was an amg stationwagon but come on 100k+ car that is good for nothing other than racing and looking cool is getting served by a soccer mom with an automatic. Shame, shame...
The R-8 quickly started producing those v10 powerplants.

If you want performance on the cheap, get the Stang, but no sane person cross shops a Mustang GT and an M3. If you had the money for an M3, you wouldn't be cross shopping a lowly GT, you'd look at the new Cobra.

Firstly, stating that the M3 is all hype and no speed risks you losing the pink slip to your magazine collection. Secondly, when did Top Gear drive the 1M? I must have missed that episode.

Note that the GT in the video had the Brembo brake package. It's not the basic GT.

That being said, I love both cars. The M3 is obviously still a great car, but I'd be pissed if I paid $70K+ for an M3 and a GT beat me. 🙁 Might as well get a 335i and save the money.

I was told 2 weeks ago about it. So I am assuming that around the time it aired on bbc america. This guy at work loves the show and he always tells me about it. Apparently they said the 1m should be the 1.35. agreed on the m3 having speed. I should have said that the m3 should be incredibly fast. the mustang does not have the prestige but the interiors IMHO are very similar in quality and the 25k price difference is not worth the prestige. I would say the ctsv carries more prestige that the m3 now.

Truth.

The new Shelby GT350 is the thing that slots in price-wise against the M3, but offers performance probably approaching ZR-1/F458 levels in top setup, the model that isn't totally balls-out (with only 525hp), looks to be an epic performer :

The middle model they tested flattened the 1/4 in 12.0 @ 120, the 624hp top end one is gotta be ridiculous.

It does kind of suck when you roll up to stop light and some douche in an SRT-4 or a Mustang GT starts reving at you in your $70,000 uber sport coupe and you just KNOW he's going to dust your ass if you're dumb enough to try to take him.

Just last week I had some guy in a 335i try to race me when I was on my motorcycle...he lost. I felt stupid for taking the bait but he still lost. 😛
