Think of him as rapper what you want. Best actor and most succesfull over years and years has been Will Smith! He makes Movies such as MIB or Independence Day and lets not forget Bad Boys and (not seen it yet) BBII.

Will Smith probably. Although I think that LL Cool J had a slightly "higher acclaimed" rap career but less of a movie career than Smith for sure.

Mark Wahlberg has done well in the movies. I've been quite surprised. Probably just a little less success-wise with Smith but I think his "rap" career is not so well regarded as Smith.

Queen Latifah has had a good balanced movie career considering female rappers have a much higher hill to climb than men. Her rap career is highly regarded for sure.

Tupac probably would have had a monster movie career if he didn't pass on even though i'm not fond of that guy.

Ice Cube has had a decent movie career especially considering that he came from a more "angry" rap background that is certainly less mainstream. He's had to cross over pretty far. However, it can be said that a major part of his rap career wasn't solo but group oriented with NWA which melded legendary characters and talent. Eazy E, MC Ren, Dr Dre so they all share in the credit.

Why I know all this ... I just do. Some people would be surprised .....

DMX??? Are you serious? If you're going by "most financially successful" instead of "most talented" then you're still WAY off... Marky Mark is the runner up to smith in that category.. As far as talent goes.... Is shouting every line, looking angry all the time and overly emphasizing every third world really acting? I'm not saying that he's a bad rapper.. He's just a terrible, terrible, terrible actor..

What's best about Tupac's acting (like Eminem's, actually) was that he was a young, blossoming talent that showed incredible potential.. His work in Poetic Justice was decent but his follow up in Gridlock'd was intense, charming, and witty.. A few acting lessons and a great director could have made him a young sammy jackson.. I'm serious...

Will Smith yes but DMX has just made some action flicks with Jet Li, he's not the best actor.

I'd even dare to say Marky Mark is a better actor than DMX is.

Ice Cube, hands down

Will Smith cannot rap nor can he act, the Funky bunch were not rappers either, they were the one of the original boy bands. Marky Mark is a better actor than Will Smith but that is not really saying much...it would be the equivalent of saying Anna Nicole Smith is more hittable than Rosie O'Donald

The Cube's Filmography:
Are We There Yet? (2004) (announced)
Barbershop 2 (2003) (pre-production) .... Calvin Palmer
Torque (2003) (completed) .... Trey Wallace

Extractors, The (2003)
Friday After Next (2002)
Barbershop (2002)
All About the Benjamins (2002)
Ghosts of Mars (2001)
Next Friday (2000)
Thicker Than Water (1999)
Three Kings (1999)
I Got the Hook Up (1998)
Players Club, The (1998)
Anaconda (1997)
Dangerous Ground (1997)
Friday (1995)
Higher Learning (1995)
Glass Shield, The (1994)
Johnny Johnson Trial, The (1995) (USA)
Trespass (1992)
Looters (1992)
Boyz N the Hood (1991)

Dr Dre coming in a distant second. Of course I might be slightly biased since I gre up listening to NWA

I'm one of the larger fan boys of NWA, but honestly I thought the group was too talented. This is why I like Ice Cube's solo cd's and Dr Dre's "Chronic" so much

I agree with you about Ice Cube, I think he and Queen Latifah are the best rap artists turned actors. But on a scale of success in the movie business, judging success by the means of most smash hit movies, Will Smith is definately the most successful.

Marky Mark is an actor/model that had one musical hit.....for which he is extremely embarassed and gets p*ssed if you bring up "The Funky Bunch".

Good point on Ice-T. CopKiller to Cop on successful TV Drama. Doesn't get any crazier than that.

Rap album skits are ghey. Why are they still doing them??

The Question was "who would you say is the best actor turned rapper?" Will was a rapper and is an actor.

How does our culture rate success? DOLLARS AND CENTS. sad but true Cube has made more movies while that is successful Big Will Makes the Cash and is one of the highest paid actors period. Also his Films have grossed what over 400 million dollars can Cube say that? No

Most successful? Will Smith by far. The big $$ hits by far eclipse the sheer # of movies Cube has done. MIB, Independence Day, BB 1 & 2. All mega-million dolla flicks. And he's not playing a rapper in any of them.....

BEST tho? Would have to be Tha Queen. She was AMAZING in Chicago, and while I can't recall many of her other roles off the top of my head, she has impressed me in the past.

IMHO, in regards to Ice-T and Eminem, how can you tell they're great actors? Eminem is basically PLAYING HIMSELF in 8 Mile. Not very challenging. I bet anyone here would do an EXCELLENT job playing themself in a move about....themself. And I believe that's why he wasn't nominated for anything. I like Ice-T on Law & Order, but same thing with Em. Not much diversity in his character.

I concur. Will Smith was always a dull, family-friendly rapper IMO, and his acting is more of the same. Ice Cube is a brilliant musician and a fine actor, and has taken a lot of challenging and diverse roles. For his part, Marky Mark has been somewhat successful as an actor, but I remain unimpressed with his level of talent. Honestly, though, I am STILL pissed about that awful Planet of the Apes remake, and it probably unfairly biases me against MM.

I strongly disagree.. Try this..Secretly transcribe everything a friend of yours does/says in a day.. Make that your script... Now put a camera on him and say "here.. Act this out.. Be yourself!" and watch said friend sweat and look around the room nervously.. Playing yourself isn't as easy as it seems - just look at all those terrible cameos done by politicians in movies (mayor rudy in anger management is a shining example).. In fact, I'd say it's HARDER.. That's why actors freak out when they guest star on the simpsons- they exaggerate their verbal quirks and come off as bad actors.. Also, the track "Kim" on the marshall mathers LP (where he plays both a battered wife and her murderer) is an extreme example of his acting ability.. Stan as well..

Will Smith or Mark Walberg. Ice Cube is also up there.

As far as Eminem's acting ability goes, have some of you lost your fvcking mind? 8 Mile was horrible, as wall Eminem's acting.

Will Smith... Six Degrees of Seperation

None of the others on this list even come close.
