Must I own a bald cat to live without cat hair??

I have a 5 month old cat in the house, whom I love despite his spawning in the nethers of hell itself.
I know cats shed period, no way of curing it really, but I'm wondering what steps can I take to keep my house, clothes and food from having a nice layer of hair all over them.
Surely there must be something I can do.
Vaccuming doesn't seem to be enough right now.
Any other tips any cat owners might know that I can use?
I'm especially worried about my kids' things, I don't want them coated in hair...
I try to keep the cat out of their stuff, but not always successful.
Suggestions anyone?

P.S. Shaving him is a tempting option, but the neighbors might object and report me to whatever animal services Org. is the angriest...😛
 
My cat loved to be vacuumed. Dont ask how we figured it out 😉...but once a week, he would get a once over with the vacuum. I have a golden retreiver now and i havnt found anything that helps with the hair. I keep one of those sticky rollers in my car at all times.
 
LOL, I can just see the waxing process! REEEOOOOWWWW!!!!

Luckily, my cat's hair hair isn't too long and it doesn't shed it too much. Oh yeah, and cats love to be combed.

Brush the cat nightly and bathe him once a week. Start when he is young and maybe you won't have to bleed everytime you do this.

Then there are things you can apply to their coats:

Shed Stop
There are more but those were the first ones to pop up.

Of course you can just live with it too 🙂
 
Hot weather is when shedding is the worst. Brushing and vaccuming will help, but for the most part, you're just going to have to weather the storm.
 
I have always heard that bathing a cat in water makes them succeptible to illness and that you're not supposed to do it. Brushing nightly is good for them though and solves a lot of the problem.

Giving your cat a bath depends on how you do it. You have to be sure that they are 100% dry when the ordeal is done which is often difficult since you are being rushed to the emergency room. Seriously, they get chills easily so you have to dry them off REALLY well especially in the winter months. If your cat is short hair and shedding isn't too bad its best not to give them a bath, but I think with long hair its hard to avoid it or you have to deal with fur balls all of the time.

put the cat down and get yourself a nice housedog that doesn't shed. LIke a shi-tzu or a poodle or something.
 
The reason why I dislike cats: If you died at home, a cat would start eating on you by sun up. I have seen it several times. A dog on the other hand, will die of starvation before eating his master. I have also seen this happen.
