Opeth, I'll say it again for emphasis. Their new album comin in June is definitely their best so far.

Paatos. Very good group.

Meshuggah. Definitely more metal than Opeth. More metal than anybody, actually.

Porcupine Tree. Excellent.

I'll second the Opeth recommendation... some really awesome stuff! The songs I've heard from the new upcoming album are also very good, I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

Some of my recommendations:

Hybrid - Breakbeat style electronica with a real cinematic feel... check out Wide Angle, Morning Sci-Fi, I Choose Noise. They also have some new stuff coming up which should be awesome.

The Cinematic Orchestra - Awesome modern jazz/electronica. Motion and Every Day both rock.

Porcupine Tree - Prog rock/metal. Fear of a Blank Planet is pure awesome.

Imogen Heap - Pop. Speak For Yourself is an outstanding album.

Wax Tailor - hiphop/turntablism. Tales of the Forgotten Melodies, and Hope and Sorrow are some of the best I've heard in a LONG time.

Bonobo - Downtempo electronica. Animal Magic, Dial M for Monkey, and Days to Come are all very good.

I'll probably get shot for this but...

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

is an amazing album, probably my favorite. While most people know Clocks and The Scientist, the whole album is amazing. Way better than X&Y and Parachutes. (And from what it sounds like, their up and coming album as well... no piano, wtf)

. (eh, sorry, hit post when I didn't have anything to say :eek:)

However, since I did post, I might as well say I've been listening to the audio portion of a high quality MPEG-2 rip of Radiohead's Scotch Mist lately. (google) Very well put together!

Edit again: I should note it's never been sold, and the youtube version was put out by the band, so I hope mentioning this isn't against forum rules.

You didn't like From One? I think its better than Duality. Don't get me wrong I like both quite a good bit, and Duality shows they've become more talented musicians, I just think From One is better, its more raw.

There was a band that a friend told me about, The Sound and the Fury. They've already disbanded, and is almost impossible to track down their music at this point it seems like, but the stuff I did hear I liked quite a bit. Last time I checked it seems that some hip-hop/rap group has taken over the name so its even more difficult to get much info on them.

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution - Pretty much a spinoff of Streetlight kinda though more orchestral in sound

World/Inferno Friendship Society. - Punk/Ska/Soul - This band is absolutely one of my favorites.

The Weakerthans - One Great City / Left and Leaving

Mediocre singing, decent composition, but the absolutely most incredible lyricism found in contemporary music.

Man its hard to post in something like this, there are too many choices.

First for the OP: Pete Francis from dispatch also has a solo carrier/album, not my fave but you might want to check him out.

Here are some bands that everyone should listen to:

Sam Bush Band: Bluegrass/Newgrass...really funky and fun bluegrass with impeccable picking

Shpongle: Electronic/Chill....some of the most jaw dropping music I have ever heard.

Les Claypool: This man is funny and entertaining but can just kill the bass!

Widespread Panic: Southern Rock/Jam Rock, with Jimmy Herring now on the lead guitar they are on a whole new level.

Sublime is awesome, and this is a great suggestion because at the moment I am only a casual fan and only know their radio hits. They are definitely worth a closer look. Also, Reel Big Fish is ska, right? They had a hit on the radio a while back? Another great suggestion!

Ahhh yes, I probably should have mentioned DT in my OP. One of my favorite bands (although I do have to admit that I was severely underwhelmed by Systematic Chaos. That's the only DT CD that left my CD player after less than 2 weeks.)

As for SymX, I saw them play at Gigantour a year or two ago and know a handful of their songs (Inferno: Unleash the Fire is just plain awesome) but I don't have any of their CDs. This shall be rectified soon enough.
