... for having a child out of wedlock.

After a Muslim court ruled last week in favor of the stoning death of a Nigerian single mother for having a child out of wedlock, some Miss World contestants have threatened to boycott the event.

Miss World Vs. Muslim Law

:Q

Man, what happened to understanding and compassion?? I bet those involved in sentencing her have probably done worse things. I think Christ would say "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!"

What a world!! :(

If that's their law, then that's their law. She broke it. There are consequences. She incurred them. If she didn't agree with them, there are plenty of other places to live in the world with much better laws.

Like she was free to travel ? :Q

What really sickens me about this kind of thing is how many of their young males they'll send here to be educated in our universities and to sew their wild oats... seems rather lop sided the way the "consequences" thing works but what would I know eh,I'm just another evil woman

This law was not in place until recently when the area of Nigeria she lives in adopted strict muslim "shariah" laws.

So it's not like this has been the established law of the land. Just something put in place recently by a group of religious extremists bent on establishing a pure muslim society, in an area where plenty of christians and people of other faiths make there home.

Obviously! Of course if a Muslim woman doesn't agree with Muslim law, she has the support and resources to pick up and move anywhere she wants!

?We cannot fathom what benefit would accrue to the nation, in a show in which nakedness of women is exhibited with absolute (recklessness) and all sorts of immoralities come in its wake.?

I seem to remember reading somthing about those Muslim 9/11 terrorest that they frequented nudy bars and strip clubs. Gosh! what great role models for wanna be Muslims. I guess the rules stated above don't apply to those in high places.

Edit: Spelling..grrr! ;)

A good example why there should be strict separation of church and state.

That's like saying Christians want to kill abortion doctors.

Its just the radicals. Doesn't make it right, but be more specific.

Unfortunately this kinda stuff happens all over the world in areas where most of the people are uneducated regardless of religios affiliation. You just tend not to hear about them unless it involves Islam

Why are you so ignorant? You think she can just go walk out of the country? HAH!! Im sure they will also send her a goodbye card too.

Did she make an effort to leave in the 9 months she had after she was raped to leave? No. If she simply would have left, no one would have noticed. But, instead, she had the child inside the muslim reign. Now... if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I find it very hard to believe that this couldn't have been avoided.

Perhaps you're missing the point that it's her choice to stay under a stupid law. I understand the law's problems.

Okay, you don't seem to see that even if the law is stupid, she could have left and lived under another law and not have been sentanced to death for being raped, essentially. The law is stupid. I'm not arguing that. What I am arguing is that she is allowing the law to do it to her because she didn't leave.
