We just went on our first long cruise and I noticed a couple of things. The first is that the people were much fatter on this one than the one 3 years ago. Granted this was a 7 day instead of a 4 day but on the last one I wore sunglasses so my wife wouldn't notice me ogling the women walking by in bikinis. There was not a single oggleable women on this cruise (other than my wife of course). While there were many in bikinis the sight of their 3+ fat rolls (not joking) did nothing to alter any blood flow.

I was actually quite surprised at how many very hefty women were wearing bikinis. I'm talking easily 275+ lbs. Despite both being former fatties neither my wife nor I could really understand the consistent clothing choice. There were also quite a few older ladies in bikinis with very noticeable stretch lines

The other thing were the excursions. We did two through the cruise line (really because there were no other options for those activities. The cruise line had exclusive contracts with the only vendors of those on the islands). Sure it was nice to not have to walk far to the air conditioned bus and be carted around to the various destinations but I found their 'moderate' activity level quite low.The cruise excursions definitely seemed canned and built for the lowest common denominator. While it was relaxing to not have to haggle and barter a price we did enjoy the activities we booked outside the cruise line much more

Cruises suck. Film at Eleven.

If you want to have fun, you need to charter a smaller boat, have everyone jump over board, and then realize you forgot to drop the ladder.

Same cruise line on both cruises?

You and your wife sound like asses. Maybe you two are the ones that are F'd up, showing up in dolphin shorts and bikinis, flaunting their gym-toned bodies when everyone else doesn't need the reminder that at the end of their vacation, they're returning to a society that judges them for their size. They don't need you doing it while they're out to sea!

Just make sure the wife doesn't sleep with the bartender on the cruise ship.

so this cruise was more expensive and took place during the middle of the school semester?

makes sense why you might not see as many young/attractive people, but rather, an older and more out-of-shape clientele. I don't think obesity rates have exactly gone up by like 1000% in the last 3 years.

So what you're saying is visit Florida only during Spring Break season, because the rest of the time, the state is filled with old, white people?

Your wife knows you and every other male with glasses on ogle at other women. Just don't make it so obvious as to disrespect her.

Also, different cruise lines attract different clientele. I bet there are more that appeal to you on Royal Caribbean. Which one were you on?

people are getting way fat in the USA. Went to Depauw University a few weeks ago to meet Bobby Mcferring and teach a master class and ALL the students were heavy. Without me saying anything my wife commented that every student had a freshman 100 let alone 15.

Wall-e cruise ships are an eventuality.

Heh - not really sure that sounds like fun

Who said anything about flaunting gym toned bodies?

Both took place during the same time frame. I did wonder about the cost but there were plenty of 20-30 year olds on board.

Norwegian for the first Royal for this one

So it was a cruise filled with Americans only??

Surprisingly no. I was expecting that but the international customs line getting off the ship was almost as long as the domestic customs line. Lots of Spanish - maybe Puerto Rico is a big cruise port for South\Central Americans?

Nothing like seeing a middle aged woman with her fat rolls almost covering her bikini bottom and the back fat almost encasing the bikini top straps.

Spoken like a big, fat, angry, mean-spirited American.

You went on a cruise and saw fat people, and didn't like the canned excursions. Fascinating stuff. Have you considered becoming a travel writer or starting a blog or something?

Maybe the attractive women saw the creepy dude with the sunglasses and decided to stay away?

No surprise here. Part of the lure of cruises are the UNENDING amounts of food. You have a choice of 10 places to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and 6 of them are buffets, 3 are semi formal restaurants and the last one is a formal restaurant. I was at the pool and some dude rolls up with a grill on wheels and starts making cheeseburgers and hot dogs right there on the spot. Then you have the midnight buffet. Plus there is room service at any hour of the day. Fatties are drawn to cruises like moths to a lightbulb.

yeah, also many lazy people will take cruises because they don't have to do anything. they don't have to plan anything and just do what the boat tells them to do. also the unlimited food is great for fatties.

Nope - I absolutely do.

Where did I say I didn't like the excursions? It is actually possible to prefer things were done differently yet still have fun

I see you were also on the ship

Personally for me if I don't come back from vacation physically exhausted, having tried many new things, with multiple experiences I will remember for a good long time, it probably wasn't that great of a vacation.

I have been on a cruise before and its terrible. Nothing to do but eat, drink, gamble, and waste money on tourist-y shit you don't need.
