It's beautiful, but that wasn't a video game. That was a symphony performing a song, which is art.

the song was written by the musical director of Final Fantasy X. Can a collection of art not be art itself?

In other words, I think Roger Ebert is stupid.

Regardless, while To Zanarkand/At Zanarkand is a beautiful song, it doesn't have any particularly strong emotional attachments to me. It's not particularly sad, even when you consider Tidus' fate... okay, maybe that's a little sad. But in that regard, a song like Suteki da ne or 1000 Words might have a stronger emotional connection. It simply just doesn't bring tears to my eyes like PS4's Pain does 🙁

Do you have a song that draws an extremely strong emotional response every time you hear it? Generally, I'm referring to sadness/pain...

One of the strongest pulls at my heartstrings is a song from the old Genesis game Phantasy Star IV. I played it when I was like 10, but the music and scene where Alys died is just.... so sad 🙁 I almost cry every time I hear it, it's such an emotional trigger.

Do you have something that makes you want to cry every time you hear it?

You're kidding right?

I took my wife to a performance of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto #2 at the Hollywood Bowl years ago, first time she had ever been and she was moved to tears...which kind of affected me the same way after I saw how moved she was. Andre Watts was the Pianist, this was in the early 1990s.

Sometimes music still moves me to this degree, depends on the music and the mood.

I play a few of nobuo's themes on the piano, from Zanarkand to 7's world map and aeris theme.

I notice that music without vocals work better than ones with.
Some exceptions though, Rika Muranaka's The Best is Yet To Come (mgs1 ending) being one.

I find that some rolling bass now seems to take it hard to me...

Some songs also too moving, they border the line where I don't want to listen because its so moving but I can't stop listening

You're kidding right?

hey, you try playing a game where one of the main characters, and emotional support for another main character, dies slowly and there's nothing you can do about it. it's like if there were music attached to the aerith killing in FF7 (I don't really think there is). also I was 10 at the time, it hit me so hard and it was so sad. never fails to bring tears to my eyes 🙁 it's not the music so much as the emotional response that's linked to the music.

as a non-linked emotional song, I'd provide Sibelius' Andante Festivo as an example. I really like Sibelius' music, especially his tone poems; they pack so much emotion it's crazy.
