I recently bought a house with an unifished basement and have an old 2.0 stereo setup down there. Occasionally we (the wife and I) throw parties/entertain people and I would like to add an economical way to pipe some tunes down there.
-In order for this to get past the wife, it needs to be a cheap as possible.
-I already have a legal copy of XP Pro, a USB KB, Mouse and Monitor. So this is for the tower only.
-I have already looked at dell outlet and only saw towers for about 300 so that is my mark, must be under 300.
-I also have extra DDR2 ram 1GB

Again, this is only for music and internet maybe once a week at max. Maybe a music video/youtube video here and there. So that in mind, this is what i have so far:

Case $40 (30 AR)

MOBO $50 (40 AR)

CPU $30

Optical $20

By my count, thats about $140 + $23 for shipping. Any suggestions? I'm real cheap so if anyone has any tips, feel free.

$10 more for the case though, but might look more appealing to have a very small system, maybe that would sell the wife?
That is really cute. Perfect for a low powered Mini-ITX build.
On the MB side, I would shell out an extra $9 to get the Dual Core Atom 330 version. 😉
Another option would be a Nehemiah core based combo.

Thanks for the updates, I like the smaller case, it is more eye appealing. from the research I've done, it doesn't really look like there is a whole lot of a difference between the 230 and 330. Neither can play 1080p, which is fine, b/c I won't be watching that on this machine. If there are any other differences, feel free to let me know, or if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

The 230 is a single core CPU and the 330 is a dual core.
