throughout my life (although im only 18) i can remember what music i was listening to then. whenever i hear that old music i distinctly remember those years.
Pre 1994: Rolling Strones, Asia, Right Said Fred, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson:: Basically anything my parents put on. I remember going up to the lake home with my friends and listening to "I'm to sexy" by Right Said Fred and running in cirlces acting crazy. Very, Very fond memories, makes me wish I was a kid again.
1994: Ace of Base, Random Polka:: Was in 4th grade, but I remember listening to ace of base a lot and polka (??) for some reason
1996-1997: Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring, Nirvana:: Great years, I loved this part of middle school and remember it fondly, good friends, good music, good times
1998: No Music:: Was really depressed and hated that my family had moved. At least I don't have any memories to remind me of it
1999: Korn. Generic top 40 stuff:: I didn't listen to good music, I remember though, from hearing the top 40 music of the this time how I managed to run an underground cd copying operation at my high school when I thought I was really hardcore. Things were better, but not much.
2000: Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Vandals, They Might be Giants, Radiohead, Saves the Day:: Great part of my life, met my best friends, built a wicked watercooled tower, got my first girlfriend, drivers license, started to loosen up a lot and go to parties and just have fun in general. Starting to like punk rock a lot. (Even if I was listening to fake punk at the time)
2001: Anti-Flag, AFI, Propaghandi, Fugazi, NOFX, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Radiohead, Prodigy: I started to party too much, going to too many raves, doing waaay too many drugs. I was trying to live like a rock star, I would be messed up all day long every day on really expensive drugs. At the same time I had an internship doing network administration for a local company ( i bet you know where the money was going ). When I hear music from this time period I get very sad, even though I wasn't doing good things, it was a good time and I miss how things were.
2002: Choking Victim, Leftover Crack, NOFX, Rancid, Dead Kennedys, Radiohead, Mindless Self Indulgence, Orbital, Moby, Rolling Stones:: January was horrible, and by the 31st of the month I had an overdose from oxycontin. I was listening to Radiohead in this time period, and its difficult to listen to anymore. Now I listen to mostly punk rock I hadn't heard before. I get sad listening to old music from happy times. I'm great now, but I know the music I'm listening to now might trigger good and bad memories in the future.
I've had a lot of fun writing this, remembering old times and the music of the year. It would be cool if someone else could give their input and what music they liked at the time.
